SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily)

FARSIDE SUNSPOTS: There are two sunspots on the farside of the sun so large they are affecting the way the sun vibrates. Take a look at this helioseismic map. The two dark regions are echoes of farside spots. One of them (on the left) will rotate onto the Earthside of the sun in 2 days. Stay tuned.

My thoughts exactly, the anticipation i have for a lasco update may just kill me.

I wonder if it was just 3088 putting on a good show or if the yet to be named sunspot complex was also involved.

I was also thinking 2 events, possibly 3 if you count the m1 flare that set off the chain reaction. Lower right hand quadrant implies it was from spot 3088, upper left indicates the , yet to be named, complex also fired off a shot.

M1>3088>undefined

Makes me worried that any of these departing polarities may cause a cataclysmic chain reaction next week. Wishful thinking im sure.

Any major CME was definitely a far-side event. The huge filament in the south is entering the Earth strike zone now.

O you might have cracked the code on this! I wish I could remember what my blood type was. If I had the time I’d start a survey thread. I’ll try to remember next time we get a storm and start it while it’s happening.

Good info. Lots to consider. I wish I could call him up and talk to him.

It is just an idea I have had since noticing my own
symptoms when these very high KP Indexes go off. In this
case, tho, my hubby who has a positive blood type is also
feeling symptoms--so if the theory is correct, it has
a few glitches! lol!

Hope you feel better. The sun is really "on the FRITZZ!"

This is really fascinating! I’m o negative, I think a thread for keeping tally would be very interesting indeed

I did think of doing a thread and gathering some other
opinions about the idea of solar geo-storms causing
symptoms for + or - blood types. However, I am thinking
I don't really wish to have people post personal health
information which could end up being "data-mined" by
unfriendly parties. I think it would be just too tempting
and I believe GLP members should protect personal information
as well as they can.

But go for it if you think it would be something you
might enjoy.

’s plot the flux of 10 MeV particles is 10,000 times higher than usual. At these energies protons can pass right through sensors on the spacecraft, and do things like charge electronics and blind out star trackers.

#Parker uses star trackers to keep its heat shield pointed at the Sun. if blinded it can use an internal system to track its orientation and block the Sun. We designed that system to work through a two day long solar storm so this may be our first chance to see how it performs.

Since we can’t hear from #Parker while it’s this close to the Sun we may need to wait a week to find out if the spacecraft saw this storm and took action. Thinking positive thoughts in the meantime!

Here’s another way to think about why this is exciting/dangerous. We think the particle radiation during a storm is a lot more intense closer to the Sun and as I write this #Parker is only six solar diameters above the surface of the Sun!

The current Schumann Frequency chart is showing several hours of almost nothing, then suddenly extreme activity.

Is this a technical glitch, or is that what it actually was doing?

MAJOR FARSIDE CME AND RADIATION STORM (UPDATED): Something just exploded on the farside of the sun. NASA's STEREO-A spacecraft recorded a magnificent full-halo CME emerging during the late hours of Sept. 5th:

A NASA model of the CME shows it heading away from Earth and directly toward Venus. This will be the second time in a week that Venus has been hammered by a significant solar storm. An earlier CME struck on Sept. 1st, probably launched by the same farside sunspot.

"This is no run of the mill event," says George Ho of the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab. "Many science papers will be studying this for years to come."

Ho is the principal investigator for an energetic particle detector onboard Europe's Solar Orbiter spacecraft--and he is getting a lot of data right now. Solar Orbiter just performed a close flyby of Venus (only 6420 km away) to adjust its orbit around the sun. It is in the perfect position to observe the storm.

AND HURRICANE WATCH "DOUBLE EVENT" for that day/week!
NOTE:
(Don't see THAT every day...in fact, I've never seen
Davidson "get behind a SPECIFIC DATE"--so I would watch
September 23rd (heck the whole week starting the 18th
for that matter!)
