I see what you're saying, Lazarus was raised from the dead by Jesus and came out of the tomb. He did not come down from heaven, but was in the tomb dead-"asleep".

Neim, you are 100% right on my friend. At death the body dies, the soul sleeps, and the spirit returns to God. My question for the group is if the spirit returns to God and we are to be redeemed to life of immortality than do we essentially live forever in spirit both past and present once this happens? My brain hurts.

Here is a passage for consideration;

"... Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live... " - John 5:25

Now who are the dead here? Some might say those who were dead before Christ atoned for their sins.

But does not scripture tell us that all men are dead in sin?

Ephesians 2:1 tells us that we certainly were. So we were dead (in sin).

But scripture tells us we are made alive in Christ - Ephesians 2:4-5

Now if we are made alive in Christ, where then is death?

The victory over death has already been brought to us through Christ. - 1 Corinthians 15:55

So comes to pass the passage in John 11:26;

"... whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die..."

That is my take on "death". It has already been destroyed for those in Christ. As those in Christ have been put to death and raised again (in Him).

The soul doesn't go anywhere brotha. The rich man & Lazarus passage was a parable--not literal, for the reasons Steve Wohlberg explained earlier. I do not agree with everything Steve says but he correctly wrote that so I gave him credit.

Genesis forward says "man is a living soul". There is no disembodied soul. We are remembered for resurrection to a new body, and that would be the soul. But it only sleeps as Jesus explained in Matthew 13^posted.

All humans rest at death. I am speaking about if you look at it once we are outside of space and time....then do we essentially live forever both past and present? God is God of the living and not the dead. It is a difficult concept to grasp for me. I agree that in this age of space and time that once you die you rest until are glorified. But once glorified the rules of space and time are gone and you would have the opportunity to move in and out of space and time. Brain hurts
