Tomatoes are just not ripening correctly.... and the leaves are dying off... never saw that before
What the hell is wrong with the tomato plants, eh? I raised all the babies from seed. I watered them right amount daily. They grew, produced flowers, then tomatoes... but:

the tomatoes are just not ripening correctly.... and the leaves are dying off... never saw that before...

Fukushima? What's the deal? Anyone else have similar issues with their tomatoes?

I get no Tomatos since 2-3 Years,
no one is getting more than a Handful,
only the Tomatos from/ or in the Greenhouse working well!

Do you saw already: "Why in the World are they spraying"?
There is a Explanation inside for this Prob,
but it is also strange
because we have no massive Chem/Contrails here in Tokyo!

I tried this Year (2012) even some Seeds from my old Portuguese Stock
(they grow for Generations)
they start to grow, even have Blossoms but no Fruits!

Edit: Tomato Problem started before the Melt Down of F'Shima!

Stop watering your tomatoes. Unless your live in a desert and are facing triple digit temperatures, tomatoes should not be watered every day.

Let the plants get a little dry, let them get worried and scared that they are going to dry up and die. Then they will start to ripen.

Start abusing and neglecting those tomato plants, or your never going to get any tomatoes.

I have tomato plants that are loaded with tomatoes, that I have only watered once. We haven't had more than a couple of sprinkles of rain here since sine June, but they have deep roots and lots of natural compost in the soil.

People baby their tomatoes too much. They truth is that they like abuse.

Re: Tomatoes are just not ripening correctly.... and the leaves are dying off... never saw that before
It was hot for tomatoes too. I think that stunted the cycle. The plants are taking a longer time to ripen and then produce more fruit. Conserving energy. 95+ and less rain is tough on them. Those temps have passed for us here but the growht pattern seems to have been set. I've got some cherry tomatoes that are real happy though. Smaller fruit? Also though, some plants that came up on their own in soil taken directly from the compost pile are dark green and bushy with a decent amount of fruit for coming up later than the starts. Whatever it is, I believe heat and lack of moisture was also pushing the limits of what the soil had in it.

I'm going heavy on the compost this fall.

It's called heat stress. Cover them with a net next time or grow them under partial cover of tree's.

every single one of my hand started tomatoes died this year when I put them outside to harden before transplanting. Ditto my squash plants. I planted over 20 packages of flower seeds, which never came up. Not even one seedling out of 4 large packages of cosmos for example. My natural wild sunflowers produced a small showing and are undersizes, not much natural feed for the birds this year and they are dying too. Something is very very wrong. I AM an experienced gardner.

My parents threw our tomato plants out too, they were getting all deadish but was thinking that could have been solved by cutting the dead parts off and continuing to care for it. Probably because of the hotter weather though. Or at least for us, it was pretty hot when ours were thrown out.

It's called blight. It can come in overnight and destroy your crop. We had that happen 2 years ago. Now I spray with a fungicide beginning about the end of July - beginning of August. I live in Zone 3.

The next time you have a ripe tomato, cut off the top and toss it under your tomato plants. The ripe tomato gives off a chemical which helps the other tomatoes turn ripe.
