No homework on Wiccan, Pagan holidays at University of Missouri?
Students at University of Missouri don't need to cram for exams that fall on Wiccan and Pagan holidays, now that the school has put them on par with Christmas, Thanksgiving and Hanukah.
The university’s latest “Guide to Religions: Major Holidays and Suggested Accommodations” -- designed to help faculty know when and when not to schedule homework and exams -- lists eight Wiccan and Pagan holidays and events right alongside more mainstream occasions. It's all part of the school's effort to include everyone's beliefs, although some critics say listing every holiday associated with fringe belief systems is a bit much.

“The holidays and accommodations section of this guide is provided to faculty, staff and student leaders as an educational resource for the myriad of religious holy days celebrated at Mizzou,”

Seems fitting, seeing how most major christian holidays were taken over from pagan holidays in order to convert the people with less objection, since they still got the basic holidays they were used too..

Funny you think Pagan Holidays had anything to do with the Blessings of this Country....

I guess that is what happens when the schools stopped teaching U.S History for Liberal Egonomics...

Re: No homework on Wiccan, Pagan holidays at University of Missouri?
The Pilgrims left Plymouth, England, on September 6, 1620. Their destination? The New World. Although filled with uncertainty and peril, it offered both civil and religious liberty.

For over two months, the 102 passengers braved the harsh elements of a vast storm-tossed sea. Finally, with firm purpose and a reliance on Divine Providence, the cry of “Land!” was heard.

Arriving in Massachusetts in late November, the Pilgrims sought a suitable landing place. On December 11, just before disembarking at Plymouth Rock, they signed the “Mayflower Compact”—America’s first document of civil government and the first to introduce self-government.

LOL

And you know that christmas itself was not the actual birthday of the christ child, but rather a pagan holiday that was assumed by christins to ease pagans in to the christian faith. The christmas tree is not about the christ.

Easter is not a christian holiday either. It came from Ishtar. No pointin fighting these points, you can see from history the origins of these things.

Check in to it. Never hurts to have more knowlege about anything.

What does Easter and Christmas represent????

It would of NEVER ever been celebrated in this Country if it was not for the Birth of Jesus Christ and his resurrection...

Christmas was not made a Federal Holiday so people could shop at Macy's...

Re: No homework on Wiccan, Pagan holidays at University of Missouri?
I guess all I wastrying to point out is that it seems silly to worry about what holidays are observed... why do you care what they do at that college? If the christain god takes issue with any of this, or is offended by people celebrating / observing / not doing homework on those days that were in fact overtaken from pagans... he must be powerful enough to smite all of them who are evil in his eyes no?

Therefore, if you arent struck down for being pagan... its clear that god dosent care. If god wont react to it, why should you?

Go in peace...

Well I know what they represent. What im sayingis they were in fact days overtaken from pagan holidays. If not for the pagans, you would not have those celebrations at all. As for federal holidays, the government should remain 100% religion free. Thats the way it should be. None of those days should be observed by the government.

As for the other comments, like wise up and such...

try your best to remember there are other points of view. hearing them and disagreing is one thing. To attempt to belittle others for their opnion is more like a fred phelps thing to do. Ill say it again... if god had a problem with it... he would kill all of them. Not one at a time mind you... but ALL of them at once.

Seeing how he didnt... its all good

GOD's Holy DAYS were given to the Prophets long time ago...

The Point is Christmas and Easter were celebrated in the USA because of Jesus Christ, otherwise if they were about Sun Worship and Bunny rabbits they would of stayed Pagan in Pagan Rome and the USA would of NEVER adopted them...

Re: No homework on Wiccan, Pagan holidays at University of Missouri?
The spiritual world is real, and so is Satan.

One thing Wiccans have right is that there is a supernatural world that interacts constantly with the world we see, touch and smell. Unfortunately, they believe it's okay for humans to interact with spirits and spiritual forces any way we choose. To the contrary, the apostle Paul writes that the spiritual realm is potentially dangerous. Therefore, we need to treat it the way God tells us to and be prepared for spiritual battles of good versus evil.

The Bible says:

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. (Ephesians 6:12-13)

Re: No homework on Wiccan, Pagan holidays at University of Missouri?
Pagan, Wiccan, Kwanzan/?, Muslim, Christian...if they make exceptions for one and it's not a private school then they should make it the same for every religion (or celebrations for the pagans). The easiest would be to do a Holiday winter break and the spring break and not add or call it differently.

This country was founded on freedom of religion (by Christians who were trying to get away from more dominate, forceful Christian sects).

I'm a Christian and no-one should be forced to worship Christ, that's why we have this free-will thing so it doesn't go against my beliefs to see that it should be fair regarding all religions otherwise they just need to stay away from the whole thing completely.
