Re: Make no mistake; Today, the world changes forever
coincidence?

Military analysts have already warned about the possibility of North Korea exploding a high altitude nuclear device high above the continental United States using a “Super EMP” weapon capable of disabling the power grid in the lower 48 states. The North Korean space launch vehicle, a ‘weather’ satellite put into space in December of 2012 and carrying an unknown payload, will be passing over the geographic heart of the United States on April 10th. Curiously, the 10th is the same day that North Korean officials warned they would no longer be able to provide protection for foreign embassy officials in Pyongyang.

There is an upside to an increase in espionage (ie; new cold war), the tourism at the Grand Canyon will greatly pick up again....lol!

So does this mean war? Im lost
 Quoting: Wikid Smith

Yes - at the VERY least, a heightened Cold War that will leave the prior between US/ USSR to pale in comparison.

How many here are old enough to remember that? Now think of it with today's technology - the espionage alone would be mind-boggling.

Thanks for the excellent thread....

Not what I wanted to read though this morning... :(

It can be a sobering thought.

Those posting here with "what time", "nothing will happen", or flying the "BS" flag have not read the OP.

I've no intention of defining whether "something" happens or not, but rather discussion that regardless of action/ inaction - the repercussions will be long-running and deep-reaching beyond the NK/ SK region.

Re: Make no mistake; Today, the world changes forever
This North Korea situation will signal the players in the NEW "Cold War". IT will end the U.S as tne single decision maker, it will show that Russia, China, N.Korea and Iran along with Assad's Syria are one bloc, united together.

On the other hand, the U.S and U.K will remain the two powers, but nations like Germany and the EU may choose to remain neutral although the U.S will ask them not to do so.

As for the struggle, well its gonna be the Middle East, Syria right now is the battleground, no matter what you hear on MSM or otherwise, Syria is a stalemate.

But if Syria falls, the Russian bloc suffers greatly as Hizbollah is disconnected and Iraq is vulnerable from the Al Qaeda and Sunni Takfeeri groups who will form bases in Syria.

It is about who is gonna blink first and make concessions. However from what I see on CNN Obama seems to be more worried about gay marriage and embroiling himself in a gun issue. Obama is weak and I predict he will cave in first. Even if Assad is about to fall, the Iraqi Shia and Hizballah will intervene directly. This aint no game to us Shia, we are fighting in Syria till the death.

I think that the US cancelling our own missile testing gave Lil' Kim a way out of this mess. He can save face with his people by saying that we were afraid of the power of the DPRK and cancelled. He could spin it in his favor.
 Quoting: TwoPlusTwins

An excellant point - even if it is likely lost on Kim and his enablers.

Seems obvious that he could simply state "our strength and conviction forced the US to stand down and be weak."

It would pass with his people.

Ironically, standing down by the US is a subtle sign of strength - finding a way for him to dig himself out. It puts him in a far more limited position in terms of action the world will see as justified.

Even if it is equally true that the US's other actions are every bit as responsible for the amped up situation.

I remember it quite well, including the Cuban missile crises. There is one big factor that we had then that will not work now. The doctrine of mutually assured destruction that we had with the USSR at the time. MAD will not work with the multiple parties that are involved now. This factor alone makes a multi-party cold war a much more risky proposition. Throw in small rogue nuclear capable factors and we are definitely starting to roll the dice.

That's half of my point here - even if nothing overt happens, it leaves NK in a precarious position of being mocked and Yong Un loosing his perceived level of international power as viewed by his people.

Sometimes, "nothing" amounts to a whole new bag of contentions.

let's not forget the Korean leader used to play a lot of video games while in high school and college, a lot of doom and quake and who knows what else, so this war might seem to him like a video game and that could be risky, he might not be mature enough to make such a difficult decision as to attack or not, but he might make a deliberate, unthinking, sentimental feeling driven choice which might be catastrophic, unless he's not making the shots and he's just a pawn being used by someone else and someone else is actually the one who will make the call.

I do agree with you with regard to MAD, however, even Kennedy was a strong enough leader to face it head-on. I'm no great Kennedy fan, but he was head and shoulders above what is masquerading as a leader in the US currently.

There is a fair amount of discussion regarding who is actually calling the shots for the future of NK (Aunt/ Uncle/ both) from behind the scenes.

There is just as much discussion regarding the possibility of Yong Un being set up to be harshly taken down.

Good Post.

I believe the time line may be out a bit longer than today, but seems that NK is pushing boundries and seeking legitamicy among world powers, albeit via the wrong tact.

This young leader appears to want to get to the edge of conflict and if there's no retaliation, he wins.

...off point, but I wonder who launched the missle of California a few years ago. Could that have been the beginning of this standoff?

From NK perspective....all it has to do is tell its people that it launched, US was destroyed and they can all live happily ever after. It will show old japanese footage of the nuke destruction and the people will rejoice and worship Kim Jung Un forever as a god.

meanwhile, the international community will let go of a few billion to quiet him down and we get back to normal living till he needs another bill or two in $$, then we repeat the process. He learned it from his dad, but he is taking it further for more money i would guess.
