Everytime I find it harder to communicate with politicized/religious fanatics
These people that go everywhere holding their particular banner and begin attacking everyone who isn't one of "theirs". Today I had a discussion and when I saw it was one of these people I was like, yeah you're right, whatever, I didn't even feel motivated to engage anymore as I know it's futile. These elements seem to compose most of the masses so I don't really have much hope for humankind.
Banned as usual.

“It is far easier to be a weakling than to be a Real Man. Were the Earth less harsh or the circumstances of life less austere, man would destroy himself before the shrine of the languid goddess. Only Real Men can with safety destroy the tangled forests and wilderness of Earth and make from them gardens, but will those who inherit the gardens be Real Men? The law decrees that they must be, or the wilderness will reclaim its own.”

Perhaps it is a defense mechanism of sorts OP. A way for people to cope in a complex world.

If I may ask, what was the topic?

Politics. I was trying to get an IDEA across and the person was constantly bringing the topic back to her beloved politician and attacking me with ad hominems. We weren't even debating the same topic, she was just looking for an excuse to debate her own strawman. Some people are just really lost, and worse of all these people call themselves awakened. SMH.

to be open to all possibilities is far more interesting.reading books gave me many different perspectives, and I don't mind admitting I may be wrong.

Personally I find it hard to deal with people who treat their politicians as rock stars or Gods. Give them facts to prove that they are heinous monsters, and instead of checking those facts out, they call me a liar and continue to promote their candidate or cause with glee.

I have had this happen before, many of them only want to voice their frustration. Which is OK. But it is also OK to simply say you have heard enough and walk away. May be rude, but at least you didn't say 'Fuck you!' to em.

Ah, I see.

It seems, more and more, we speak at each other; and less and less with each other. Particularly when we are in disagreement.

To me, it is better to cut such things short and seek common ground. Seems you made the wise move. Not without sorrow though it seems. I can relate.

Have a nice evening OP.

Peace,

Yes. Exactly. And with these kind of people this is even more acute. Ad hominems are the norm. This was funny because I wasn't even mentioning her "political hero". These people do not want to discuss, they want to push their views. It's better not to waste time with them.
