Have bee looking for something. . Great book, you won't be disappointed. Yeah, Bluebird. Its a fairly easy read as well. By the end of the book, you are going to get the chills. You know I remembered the one twist, but had forgotten about the very last twist, and yea... It is a great ending. Fuck Yea! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 300884 The rest of the series should be avoided though. Noted, thanks for the heads up. don't listen to this guy. the first book is great, an easier to handle, but the other 7 books are excellent as well. the remaining 3 in the first set are about ender's life while out in space/visiting other planets the other series of 4 is about the remainder of Ender's crew back on Earth after he's left the planet. all of the different characters end up in positions of political power across the different nations of the planet. great reading... Hmmm, thanks for your opinion. Damn, I wish I still lived in my old town, they had a great used bookstore, could get great books for just a couple of bucks. Maybe I will take a trip out to barnes and noble soon and see if I can find the sequel there. Speaker for the Dead I think it is. I found "Speaker" and the subsequent books somewhat contrived, and boring, myself. Chacun a son gout, I guess. |

Which on one hand lessens the impact, but on the other should let them be as violent and inappropriate as they want. I was a huge huge Ender's Game fan back when I was in my late teens. I still love it. I'm counting the days until I can introduce my son to it (I'm thinking 726 days, but it may end up being sooner because of the movie - I'd much rather he read the book first) - and he has a signed copy waiting for him. But the new branch of the series doesn't really do much for me. I'm following it when I notice a new book show up at the library basically because I'm curious to see how he ties things together. |

I might not be able to respond as I am at work and things are starting to pick up. This will be my last bump on this book. I think the next thread will be the martian chronicles by bradburry. Fuck Yea! |

There is a lot in the book for a young boy to learn. My son is starting to read , but it is simple things, I think maybe a year or two more and I might buy him his own copy of this. Fuck Yea! |

I am now really excited for this movie, Harrison Ford being one of my favorite actors from all the Clancy movies. Quoting: CharlieMurphy So you like Bean but havn't read the Enders Shadow series? You'll LOVE it, it's all bean! |

I want to ask general Fred Franks (ret.) what he thinks of this book. For those who don't know , Franks was commander of 7th Corps during gulf war one. The unit that swung around and crushed the Iraqi republican guard. His book he wrote with Clancy is truely a study in command. I would love to hear his thoughts on enders game. Fuck Yea! |

Also thanks to whoever posted the the whole timeline of the series. This thread has turned out way better than I thought it would. Quoting: CharlieMurphy That was me, you are welcome. I am a huge Enders Game fan. Love the entire series. Currently reading the book Earth Afire, about the first Formic invasion. Very interesting stuff! |

To clarify why I think the series is much worse than the first book: The first book is about mankind facing an existential threat in the form of an enemy that is almost impossible to fight. The only way for the human race to survive is to compromise on moral principles and do some pretty nasty things, like abusing children, raising them to know nothing but war. This combination of mortal threat and moral dilemma gives the first book a very tangible tension. The rest of the books are instead about how Ender finds out that humans and aliens can all be friends. This may be "enlightened" and all, but it gives no where near the gut-wrenching tension of the first book. They're all well written enough, but I think the first is a far superior reading experience. |

It is what happens on Earth afterwards. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35443281 The Ender series is probably my favorite books of all time. Been waiting for the movie for quite a while. I hope they stick as close to the books as possible. I hope so too. Such a very good book. While looking through his wiki I noticed that "Speaker for the Dead" won awards too. It has solidified my desire to explore more of the series. Fuck Yea! |

I have not found any other book that truly understands what its like growing up as a gay boy! Card I love you! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6203940 Card is no great friend to gay people. Which is odd, since he writes some of the most sympathetic gay characters I've every read in some of his earlier books. Stick to his earlier books, don't read too much about him, and avoid disillusionment. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 38706893 United States 07/03/2013 07:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Tomorrow afternoon we discuss once I am done with work. I picked this book off my shelf today after not having read it for at least 15 years. I plowed through it and am almost done, but am a little too drunk to discuss it now. I will wait for tomorrow. Quoting: CharlieMurphy Until then feel free to discuss without me. The number one thing that strikes me is the day to day technology they use. Card was a fucking visionary, the things that don't even exist today, you can see technology leading to. The other thing that strikes me is the manipulation his siblings use of "the net" (what we would consider forums today). He wrote the book in 1977, how the fuck did he know about the internet? Anyways, I will get more into this thread tomorrow, headed to bed now. Going to finish the book and work tomorrow, be back after. God damn the book was practically falling apart. Old, paperback, turning colors and falling apart. you know how many Mormons are fucking intelligence agents? That's how he knew. |
