Quoting: Anonymous Coward 44077168 Both are in my top 10 list, yet both did hardly anything at the box office. Both slightly off-beat, warm-hearted romances -- the first mostly drama, but some comedy; the second, the reverse. im not a fan of "australian" actors.russell crowe is like eric bana.i cant believe theyre famous. THEN YOU MUST WATCH ROMPER STOMPER |

(Will check out "Law Abiding Citizen" and "The Big Lebowski." Quoting: Anonymous Coward 44077168 Also, I really appreciate it when posters on this thread give a short summary of the movie and why they like it! BTW, of the movies listed, I totally agree that "K-Pax", "The Outlaw Josey Wales" and "Tucker" were GREAT movies. (And I think it is a great pity that Jeff Bridges has not had more work lately!) np.i agree its best to give a summary.i would expect people here to think critically, not superficially.what ideas does the movie promote?then we maybe able to understand why these movies lacked either, support, marketing or were just flat out suppressed or rejected by the mainstream or the public. when the thread is dead, maybe i'll tally them up and post links. #444 bill L |

"The Illusionist" and "The Prestige" People loved "Dead Poets Society" which was excellent, but I think "The Emperor's Club" and "Mr. Holland's Opus" were better movies on teaching. Big ratings for "Howards End", yet "Remains of the Day" was better. In this case I think they were afraid of repeating the Oscar for best picture to the same people two years in a row. |

Deniro, Keitel, Liotta, Cathy Moriarty It's like a Scorsese film with the cast. |

It's true that some of the best movies are those that have not been hyped up. My contribution is "The Uprising". It was on tv (HBO first I think - then other channels. It is about the Poles rising up against the Nazis. It was awesome. Sat on the edge of my chair watching and chewing my cuticles. It would be good to watch in this day and current Nazi time. User ID: 45077834 United States 08/23/2013 11:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | How did this get underrated? It was notable to pretty much any movie watcher, it flopped in theaters due to the terrible trailers they portrayed, but afterwards it got a lot of attention once people watched the DVD and passed it on. Wouldn't call that underrated at all. Fantastic movie, saw it twice in the past and love it due to the subtle lines and the true care of a parent. I'd call this a true underrated movie. Fantastic movie that will open your mind and give you some pretty cool thoughts on each scene. I would say this reminds me of a movie called Mr. Nobody, a pretty awesome movie that deserves a watch. Such a great film, i'll agree it became underrated and more people watched the Matrix than this. I can't believe how well it was made and can't imagine them not making a sequel sometime. Not even close to underrated, i'd put this in the same category as Pineapple Express, they both deserve to be watched if not back to back. Toke up and just laugh. Never was underrated and guarantee you ask any child who grew up in the 90's they will say they loved it. Never was underrated either, but many people didn't take to the darkness of it. It was fantastic and Norton should of won many awards for it. Truly fantastic film with Depp playing a writer lost inside his own mind. Underrated i'd say. Most of those mentioned aren't underrated. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4572987 Primer Trainspotting (cant believe so many have never seen this) OldBoy Wouldn't say those are underrated just a little too out of peoples boundaries unless they can find art inside each one. I watched Primer when I was younger and it went over my head, then watched it a few years later and loved it. Trainspotting is a drug driven movie that has a lot of great stuff portrayed in it. I'd recommend Requiem For A Dream. Oldboy was a dark and very artsy film that many people disliked the rawness of it. Not underrated at all. Critically Acclaimed and was praised by many. Not even close to underrated, you go to any dorm room you will find posters. Not underrated either, just ask anyone, they have seen it and love it. Not underrated and is has a huge fanbase. Can't remember demolition man right now but Office Space isn't underrated either. Fantastic film that I wish more would see. I love Kung Fu Hustle it was a pretty big thing when it came out but if you don't like kung fu movies or karate in general you probably won't like it, even if it is a giant satire of them and has comedy pushed into every corner. Great movie, one of those movies where you think if you were in that position what would you do. Went on vacation and sat in a hotel room instead of doing the true tourist thing and watched it, saw it so many times but its a great film with 2 fantastic leads. Recommended over and over. yep,a brilliant film The Stand wasn't underrated but not many people knew how to find it after it aired on TV. I made my wife watch it not to long ago and it's one of Stephens fantastic creations. Pretty funny and had some great lines, but it could have been better and wish the teenage girl was a different actress. But overall it's a great movie. Basically hates everything American Media has turned into and takes it out on the wrong people. Once in a Blue Moon Requiem For A Dream Pi Children of Men Waterworld Escape from NY & LA Pan's Labyrinth & The Devil's Backbone Into The Wild In Bruges H W S A X R E P O D L A |

It would be good to watch in this day and current Nazi time. np.i suppose expectations has a lot to do with it.if people go to watch an award winning film, chances are they will be disappointed...but mostly because hollywood and the film industry has lost grip on reality, and abandoned fundamental rules of good storytelling and replaced it with cgi special effects and big names. good films sneak up on you when you dont expect it,great films grab you and either re-inforce something u know,or give you a whole new perspective on something relevant to you.so u expand your thinking.mainstream movies entertain you and little else.there nothing tangible.imho thats when ur most vulnerable to programming.example look at kids films.what is it a talking rat can teach you about the human condition? but im ranting now, sry. the academy awards and the like, its a circle jerk. #444 bill L |

Especially the end. Lords of Dogtown - for some reason I always loved this movie. I would agree it was underrated. It's not Oscar worthy or anything but I loved the acting and the skateboarding and a few scenes were actually quite moving. |
