What type of "emergency" will allow you the time to: Run to your vehicle Unlock and open the trunk Unlock your handgun case and retrieve your gun Unlock and open your ammo case Load your weapon Aquire your target? My philosophy is, No one will know I'm carrying unless I need my weapon. If I need my weapon I don't give a shit what the law says. |

Some states have reciprocal CCW's. Also Federal Instate gun laws state that you can carry a weapon if locked in the trunk and accessible. 2. Travel in Interstate Commerce with Firearm – A person is entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose, from one State where his firearms possession is legal to another State where his firearms possession is legal, and the firearms may not be seized by State or local Police if: a. During the transportation the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammo being transported is readily or directly accessible from the passenger compartment, or b. In the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment the firearm and ammo shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console. § 926A, see also Article VI, U.S. Constitution, Supremacy Clause |

The NRA has a good breakdown [link to www.nraila.org] Or more simplistic is cheaper than dirts webpage [link to cheaperthandirt.com] My last question if anyone might know, If I were in a National Park and went hiking thus leaving the car unattended for a few days or so, would I be breaking any laws by leaving the firearm in the car unattended in a parking lot? These are all hypothetical scenarios that I would rather be prepared for to handle properly if every confronted with. If I wasn't in NJ, I wouldn't have such a fear for gun regulations but my state sucks and has zero tolerance for negligence |
