Anonymous Coward User ID: 47656070 Canada 12/30/2013 10:21 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Did you get a new camera for Christmas. If you did you might want to share the photos on line. Just remember you don't just send out an image. Often times you can be giving away much more data than you realize. Date, time, camera make and model most folks know about. However remember the story of John Mcaffe. Many of these new cameras put GPS coordinates on the photos now, be sure to go into the menu and shut the GPS off if you don't want others to know the location of the image you took. Quoting: TheBryk I'm reminded of this because I like to use a metal detector to hunt for things and time to time I look for KGC stashes. I take photos when I find things, and I want to be sure that I am the only one looking in areas when I run across the good stuff. I also saw some images someone posted of their bug out location. They had very nice supplies and they wanted to show them off I guess. Sad thing is now I know where their stuff is, so many others must also know as well. Protect yourself know what info you are putting out there. [link to www.examiner.com] Good imaging software lets you strip that off when you convert from RAW to JPG. |

[link to www.digital-photo-secrets.com] On Windows... 1) right-click the image and select 'Properties' 2) select the 'Details' tab 3) scroll down and there is a 'GPS' section There is an option to 'Remove Properties and Personal Information'. |

Sadly I think most people plug in their equipment and start posting away or just post wirelessly from their cell phones and don't even think about the info they may be giving out.
