Re: Warning to those looking for jobs
I just wanted to give anyone who is looking for work a heads up. I have two jobs currently, one in the Maritime Industry that is a great job, but the pay is awful and one as a bookkeeper for several LLC's that's boring but pays very well. I have been looking for a full time job in the Maritime Industry that pays well as a Martitime/Vessel Coordinator. I fill out applications whenever I have time.

I finally got a response from a big company and spent two hours filling out all of the remaining paperwork. Then I got a phone call from them about an interview. I was very excited but then I realized that the caller was some sort of Middle Eastern. You guys know how much I love Muzz. So, I contacted the main recruiters on Linked In by searching for the company. Turns out it was all B.S.. The sucky part is that they now have all of my info. Except for my SS#. Thank God.

So be careful even if it looks legit. The application even had the name of the company all over it. Nicely done. I am looking forward to their phone call, I have a lot to say. None of it is lady like. So, everyone check and double check before you fill out anything.

This story is all too common now in the UK, and people are FORCED into applying to these sharks who just want to take your data, some try to scam you, it's a joke, it's equivicol, to being made to walk the plank looking for work in the UK now, why the fuck are the same advertising standards and regs applied to employment, no real jobs anymore
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55365903

Absolutely. These scamming bastards actually advertise these bogus jobs on universal jobmatch, and the government don't even other to check if the company is legit or not. It's like they're saying, 'You must apply for the jobs on our system, they may result in your data being stolen for fraudulent purposes, but tough shit'.

And all the while, more eastern europeans flood in to the country stealing every damn job in sight, and the government turn a blind eye to it all.

I haven't even had a single reply since being out of work since September, even though I have been applying multiple times per day, every day since. As soon as they see my British name on my CV, it is, 'Fuck you and goodbye'.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28631168

I wish someone would explain how Eastern Europeans "steal" jobs......surely it would be harder to find work if language was a problem? - The fact that they can come here and take jobs makes them better I would say.....they have a different work ethic and will do that extra shift whereas the Brits want to have their "weekend" or need some time off.....time to wake up and smell the coffee methinks and instead of moaning about them , maybe take a leaf from their books !!!!

I've been unemployed since losing my last job 12 months ago, it was a joke of a job....the boss was turkish, the packers were russian, the admin woman was iranian, and the web developer was swahili/ pakistani or something, anyway, nto one of the mcould speak english well so i also became a translator and diplomat, he overode all basic human rights, he hired a 19 year old blonde white girl, she lasted four days and he took her out the office on a bullshit errand and groped her, there was no health and safety, when it rained it leaked, and everynow and then you would hear BZZZZT and the lights would dim, i was expected to work in freezing conditions with an old gas fire that leaked, i tried to get help from the job centre but they wouldn't help or advise, i ended up having to leave and was sanctioned for 6 months....this country is a JOKE, the work programme is full of foreigners who can barely speak english, we are flooded, there are no jobs, they want to lock us up, sleeping rough is now a crime, there is no standards or unions, this is a slave ship.....blow it the fuck out of the water it stinks, there is gonna be hell to pay this summer.

You know I'm probably the last person to connect the dots in any way on anything and not because I'm particualary stupid, just naive...

But imagine this:

Most of our "homeland security" has now gone private. Those offering us security are paid via private companies who claim to be dedicated to fighting terrorist groups abroad and at home. Erm... right.

But what if those companies are in league with the terrorists? What if they are the terrorists? I'm not limiting this to just muslims, as they are an easy enough group to use when certain means to an end are needed, but they put a face on a problem that most people are "familiar" with.

Profiting from securing Americans by way of terrorizing them by means of creating the problem and then selling the solution. Ugh. How vile.

Thank you for the heads up. I swear we have woken up on the wrong planet or in another time and dimension. This can't be the place of my birth.

I've met people who attested to being hired from online ads but I think most of them are fake. It's standard HR practice for internal promotions to post the job on the internet, even though the internal applicant will get the job each time. They even interview people and get their hopes up

Not to sound rude, but that's what you get for doing things online instead of at the establishment or corporate office.

True- but the problem with that is that many of the Maritime and Oil & Gas companies are based out of Europe, so sadly, I can't go into their Corp office.

I am looking for a part time job right now. I fill out lots of on-line applications for known companies because they only take app's online. Not one has asked me for anything other my name and address and email/phone number. Nothing personal, not my age nor sex, nada.

Petco did ask me some stuff, not necessarily personal, but an agreement for them to search me everywhere (for a freaking minimum wage part-time job). I backed out of the site and put them on my crap list.

Back when I was unemployed and just trying to find even a part time job to help get by, I would apply online for retail jobs in my area. I had to fill out these stupid personality profile assessments, for a fricking minimum wage job.

rant

But employers can get away with this because the economy is so bad, it's an employers market. Back during those horrible Bush years, when employment was 4.5%, they couldn't have pulled this shit!!
 Quoting: chuckles45

I don't understand people like you. Unemployment was good after Clinton balanced the budget and made a surplus. Bush spent the surplus, doubled the deficit, deregulated the banks and we had the worst crash since the great depression. Then Obama came in and people like you think Obama made unemployment go to 10% or whatever it is really.

Our economy has stablized although jobs have NOT returned to normal. Maybe Obama could do more, but we did manage to save the auto industry, the financial industry, avoid a complete melt down and reset (or worse).

Obama had the right idea, invest in NEW industries (solar, alternative energies). He may just be a bit too early. it's a long term strategy that we are not going to see the benefits of for 10-15 years at least.

We need something new that we can export otherwise we are going to lose out to China and elsewhere.

Hi Davvi- Just a bad deal. They seem very legit, but since I discovered that they were in Nigeria...probably nothing can be done. Others have fallen for this as well. Luckily, I was suspicious after the phone call, so it didn't need to go any further.

Yes, indeed, it is called the Slavic or rather 'slave ethic'. We Brits fought for our rights in the work market so that we wouldn't be exploited by unscrupulous fat cats who would be happy to see us back in the Victorian sweatshops working our fingers to the bone for an absolute pittance - only for them to profit from our misery.

The Eastern Europeans are nothing but drones who will work all of the hours god sends because they value work more than actually living. Sorry if you think I'm lazy and have 'poor work ethic', but the 9-5 chews up enough of our lives as it is, and here are these bastards coming here and making working conditions much worse... yet so much better for the CEO's. Soon the laws will be changed to working 14 hours per day at £2.80 per hour, if you don't like it, then tough shit because the Eastern European slaves LOVE it.

So, no I wont take a leaf from their books, when UKIP get in, they're out on their drone asses.

Well , my ex husband is 50 and still works regular 14 hour days , 9-5 jobs are for women , most British men don't want to work long hours as you stated yourself that 9-5 "chews up" most of your life.....get educated about Eastern Europeans before you start slagging them off , some of them are decent hard working people who are far more family orientated than the Brits......and for the record - I used to work 14 hours Saturday and Sunday , then 10-2 weekdays as I had a mortgage and 2 kids....my husband (now ex) worked 60 hours a week.......all our friends had the same kind of work ethic....so my friend I think you are just plain lazy !

Eastern Europeans have been used and abused. If you examine how much work is involved in feeding, housing and clothing yourself you are paying for it 3 times. Your "masters" extract too much.

dont take a leaf out of their book, if i was the other side of the world working in the sticks id also be taking up all the graveyard shifts that the clock can give me. theyre no better than anyone else and employers have took them all for mugs. their hygiene sucks they starve themselves to pinch a penny

my place of work have been parading these mugs as examples for us brits and now the management and organisation is all screwed up from taking them for granted. personally i think theyre here for the gene pool whatever they have to offer cos theyre not filling up a skills shortage and there is plenty of locals willing to work where i am and who could work in a more organised manner.

It's not really about that and you know it.

Eastern European, Jew, Gypsy, Irish, Black....

Just the new word to control the masses who think their "suffering" is because of <insert group name here>.

We never learn. We never unite.

HaHa this is hilarious! So your view of life is: working as many hours as you can; taking as much stress onboard as you can; exhaust yourself 14 hours per day for some prick in a shirt and tie who does very little other than bark commands at you all day; have absolutely no time to relax and actually ENJOY your life or spend time with your family?

You must definitely be Eastern European.

I tell you, life should be fair... we fought in this country to make things fair. Yes I agree that you must work for a living, but live to work? Sorry take your commie Slavic slave ethic back to Poland with you.

When UKIP are elected into power, your commie asses are getting sent straight back to the Eastern Bloc.

Amazing. All that tripe in one breath. That knock on the door? That is reality waiting to be let in. Until then, please don't vote.

Funny, all I get is insults, nobody can postulate a rational argument.

Obama increased the deficit by refusing to shutdown the entire government. Basically it's a bridge loan for things to go business as usual.

I'm not saying it is or isn't the best course but we are still here and definitely better then in 2008. Do you really not know how close we were to a complete collapse?

The alternative would have been to shut down the government to bare essentials and that would have caused even MORE unemployment and we would have had soup kitchen lines.

----

America needs to invest in itself and in NEW exportable industries. We also need to enforce export requirements so that countries like China can't keep selling us stuff without buying our goods. That's supposed to be the promise of free trade, that these billions of Chinese people would buy our goods. That hasn't happened.
