I think it's because the sugars takes it into the cell faster, not so much to cover the taste. Also maple syrup does have some curative qualities as well I believe, or so they say.

Baking soda is bicarbonate, and the bicarbonate ion is an alkaline biased buffer ion. The sodium level needs to be watched, but solutions can be designed with potassium and magnesium bicarb in the right concentrations to maintain Na/K balance and boost bicarbonate. This should not be overdone to the point of metabolic alkalosis, but it's definitely a cheap and helpful technique to combat infections and carcinomas. Depending on circumstances, other modalities might be used, either as primary or as an adjunct.

Either way, it's a cheap and effective way to increase quality of life.

BAKING Soda is sold in the BAKING department of a store, with flour and sugar. It's food grade!

There are perhaps better brands, but cheapo Arm and Hammer won't hurt you in reasonable quantities, unless you're a sodium retainer. You can find the Na/K ratio on the net and mix sodium bicarbonate with potassium bicarbonate in that molar ratio. Add to drinks to set the pH to around 7.4. Start light and watch the daily dosage. This is serious stuff, so take responsibility and get it right first time, or find someone that can. YMMV.

Remember that there's a maximum body load you don't want to exceed for Na, K, and bicarb ion. Screwing this up too much can be lethal in some sensitive people.

took some today by coincidence, regular arm and hammer type. My grandson in kindergarten has flu symptoms and I started to also. My stomach was really hurting, headache too. Took a small spoonful in a small glass of water, in a few minutes I was relieved greatly. A couple hours later it came back so I did it again and have felt great the rest of the day. Don't know if arm and hammer has aluminum but if its all you got, it works.

No baking soda has aluminum in it. Those that advertise as being aluminum free only do so because they are tired of people always asking if it contains aluminum.

Alkaline treatments can KILL lots of stuff, but that includes good stuff too.

The problem with trying to change your body's acid/alkaline balance is that the body itself has an "ideal" PH level that it tries to maintain.

Too much acid, the excess will be expelled. Too much Alkaline, the excess will be expelled.

Alkaline treatment "may" somewhat change your body's PH level within a very narrow range, but it won't be a large change.

With that said HOWEVER many microbes need a very specific set of conditions in the host in order to survive and multiply, and for SOME types of microbes that slight change in PH "MAY" cause the conditions for their survival and growth to change just enough so as to make it difficult for them to replicate. Medical science just doesn't know since studies have not been done (no money to be made since NOT patentable).

As an example ... even "IF" it would work on some types of cancers (as some claim, but without any studies to support their claims), it most likely wouldn't work on many other types of cancers (or MOST other types) ... merely because those types of cancers are NOT as sensitive to PH changes as other types.

This type of "self treatment" is NOT a magic bullet. May not be a bullet at all in fact (no provable science behind it). On the other hand there "MAY" be something to some of the results reported for very specific types of diseases (ala Ulcers, which were long believed to be caused by excess stomach acid - up until the mid/late 1980's, but which in reality were in most cases caused by a bacteria in the gut which CAUSED other changes within the stomach).
