It's kind of like saying an F-16 fighter jet plagiarized the Wright brothers. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 57641770 United States 10/18/2014 07:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Zeppelin definitely copped other peoples music. They just did it a lot better than the people they got it from. As did the Beatles. And every rock act that got hugely famous. It is shitty for them to not give credit to the artists though. But listening through that, I am just struck by how not good the originals are and how Zeppelin made the songs amazing. Jimmy Page was a big time satanist. Probably had a lot to do with it. I like the songs, but you can tell something otherworldly is pushing them. Kind of scary. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 36783418 United States 10/18/2014 07:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Really? Why are they now suing them after 43 years?!? Because Randy California knew he had no case, and as soon as he died recently, his greedy family are just trying to get some of that MAJOR Stairway money. Stairway to Heaven is at once the best folk song AND best rock song all in one. Taurus is a hokey piece of shit no one listens to. And it couldn't sound less like STH if it tried...Stairway has the greatest guitar solo ever laid down (Jimmy Page is a genius), how about Spirit...UNLISTENABLE GARBAGE. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 36783418 United States 10/18/2014 07:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Agreed. Not even close to plagiarism, ridiculous. More like a minor lyrical homage or "nod" to the their blues influences. Zeppelin has 80 studio songs. 99% of them sound like nothing else ever done. Ten Years Gone, Rain Song, Kashmir, Over The Hills, No Quarter, Song Remains The Same, Fool In The Rain, Sick Again, The Rover, Houses of The Holy, Wanton Song, Custard Pie, Since I've been loving you, Tangerine, Celebration Day, In My Time Of Dying, In The Light, Bron-Yr-Aur...where did they "rip-off" these songs from?? NOWHERE, THEY WROTE THEM. They were the most original band ever and remain so without question. Why would the best live improv band ever, Zeppelin, need to rip off anything, when they could improv 30 minute versions of songs live full of incredible riffs, and totally change them every night?! In fact, they gave more awareness to these old blues artists than they would have ever gotten. Win-Win for Led Zeppelin. |

Not the Beatles, not the Stones, or anyone else for that matter. LZ minced all competition to little grains of sand the second Led Zeppelin 1 was released everything changed because of their untouchable musicianship and Jimmy Page's unrivaled production skills and mastery of light and shade. Just ask legendary producer Rick Rubin. Not to mention JOHN BONHAM. 20 seconds into their first song on their first album in 1968, "Good Times Bad Times", his single bass pedal triplets left all other drummers wimpering and running back to their practice rooms to try to do that lick, all failing, and they needed 2 bass drums and are still not as fluid, tasty, and powerful to this day. All studio musicians to this day know Zep were the top tier. |

It's just frustrated musician's with little talent (spirit) trying to capitalize on real talent like Led Zeppelin...40 YEARS AFTER THE FACT. Why now? That's the difference. Here's what you don't seem to understand about plagiarism. I don't have to plagiarize an entire book, just one line from a book without credit and I'm a plagiarist and I can be sued. It's not a matter of playing something something somebody else already played. it's claiming that you wrote it when you didn't and attempting to reap financial gain, in this case by claiming publishing rights. Now you can't fucking tell me you do not recognize the entire opening of Stairway to Heaven in that song. The entire fucking thing is there. People are getting busted every day for sampling 4 or 5 consecutive notes in a rap song. This is far more than that. |
