Re: Seattle City Council wants to fund internet in homeless camps
They choose to be unemployed.

It has been very cold here in the pacific northwest. The homeless who used to be on a lot of the street corners are no where to be found. Most of the street corner people are not homeless, they are just full time beggars because they don't want to hold a shovel and get a real job.

I help a homeless person now and then when I run into him.. I am well aware of his history and he is not a candidate for a job on any regular basis. And thre are not enough jobs anyway.. there could be enough jobs in both people in a marriage plus in some cases their kids did not have to work to sustain a minimum life. I don't suppose you have a true concept of what it takes to support a roof, utilities and food, clothing for work and the like...

Many homeless are broken people of the system.. Some are mentally ill and cannot function in it. In the case of the man I assist he lost his house while working.. it was repossessed and he has been homeless now for 14 years. I know people who know him.. the repossession broke him partly. he has never gotten up enough money to provide another roof et all... because you cannot work when you sleep outdoors in bitter cold without showers and enough clothing and the like... Before you trash/generalize all the homeless in such a simple statement.. put on your heart and mind and look.
 Quoting: The Pissed Cat

Which is why I don't understand why they don't provide private showers for the homeless and nicer clothes. I mean come on, there's plenty of old clothes that look great they can use. How does running a soup kitchen for the homeless help them? Wouldn't making them look clean and looking good everyday for work be a better option for them? It would be cheaper than having to buy food for them. But I guess being a businessman, I have a different outlook than everyone else, because giving them free food is so changing their plight!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32809996

HA! so you've never seen stumblin drunks and addicts WITH shower access? showering is real close to the last thing (if at all) they think about when rising from a stupor. and hey...with you bein a businessman and all with some kind of special outlook compared to the rest of us...you should open up your yard and home to all these poor innocent hungry homeless. have a few work at your home too so they know if you have children or that your wife is home alone while you're off at work. remember Elizabeth Smart? funny thing that her dad and hers last name was Smart...but it was exactly the opposite of what her dad really was. thanks for inviting the homeless psycho over to kidnap and rape me with his girlfriend for 9 months dad. it was so fun at 14 years of age havin dicks and tongues along with a few inanimate objects stuck in all of my orifices against my will. wish you could've been there to see.

there's not one enabling whiner on this thread that's bringing any of these derelicts into their homes...but feel just fine sittin on a throne sayin what the rest of us should do. to all the enablers...PUT UP OR SHUT UP.

Seattle should just take the homeless and truck them out to Bellevue and dump them along Lakemont Blvd for some irony.

It woulod serve the eastside right, they do occupy Ballard.

I was upset when Sunset Bowl went. It's one place after another getting torn down for overpriced bland condos. I wanted to live in an interesting town with history and character - it's turning into a corporate campus. At least the Europeans didn't tear down everything "old," like here.

I know a few homeless people in Seattle - you are right, many are severely mentally ill, or major drug abusers; however, some are NOT. One that I know has a 4 year degree, and fell apart when the economy collapsed, so is homeless. One guy I know used to work as a paralegal, then lost his job and apartment when the economy fell, was homeless for a year, then got back on his feet and is now working and with an apartment again. You have preconceived notions about homeless - they are NOT all the same. Some are just like you and me - only they have no income and are having a hard time getting back onto their feet. Hopefully it never happens to you - you probably couldn't handle it.

So what are they going to give the homeless people new Ipads, Iphones, and laptops? Or are they suppose to access the internet with their fingers?

It is the plan that is so expensive.

My son has canceled his mobile phone service to save the monthly fee. He still uses the phone WiFi enabled connection to make phone calls and browse the internet. We talked for over an hour last night with Skype. He also uses his laptop.

There is free WiFi just about everywhere here anymore. He is thinking about getting a simple $15 a month phone just for emergency and necessary calls. Still he is saving over $75 a month.

He lives near Seattle and was telling how much it costs for a studio apartment. I think he said $1200 to $1400 a month in Bellevue without any utilities included. Ouch.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 65189722

Um, have him move he fuck outta Bellevue. He's worried about a $75 internet bill but pays that much for a studio? Tell him to move his ass to Rainier Beach and get a $700 studio. Lame ass yuppie.

SEATTLE -- No home? No modem? No problem.

The city of Seattle wants to spend part of a $100,000 budget item to provide internet access in the city's homeless encampments.

"We are no longer looking at internet as a luxury. We have to make sure we provide humane services for everybody," said Councilmember Kshama Sawant, who is supporting the proposal.

It is still unclear as to whether the money would go to establish Wi-Fi in the city's homeless camps or more traditional, computer-based internet service there, Sawant said.

It's true. Seattle's rents have exploded to astronomical heights in a short time.

[link to seattletimes.com]

The salaries have also actually gone down in some industries (besides tech.)

I've talked to some of the homeless people, and there are former professionals among them, for sure. It's hard to believe until you see firsthand what happens to a town catering to just a few companies' growth. It happened fast.

Most people are just living paycheck to paycheck. Homelessness could happen to a lot of people.

BURIEN, Wash. -- City leaders in the small town of Burien have taken it upon themselves to crack down on the problem of body odor.

They passed a city ordinance that bans body odor in public places. Specifically, the rules prohibit obscene language and poor hygiene. The ordinance also says that people must wear enough clothing.

Offenders can be barred from public places for a year.

The American Civil Liberties Union called the ordinance unconstitutional because it appeared to single out homeless people.

single out homeless people...GOOD. have you been to any public library lately and especially in a very large city? the homeless in these places are not the innocent 4 yr degree down on their "luck" homeless person feverishly scouring the internet for a new career. last year in Federal Way i gave a perverted lookin turd $10 to leave the library for the rest of the evening. he was just sittin and starrin at people lickin his lips and chuckling. the librarian sad she could do nothing until he actually physically did something to somebody. plus...she was afraid if she said anything she'd have trouble with her superiors AND worried that he could wait for her after work when she leaves all alone. do people really want their wives or kids to have to put up with that? do we really have to smell piss...feet n ass...along with stale alcohol infused bad breathe and even listen to them breathin it in and out while tryin to use a facility we pay for? nice restaurants can turn you away if you're not dressed appropriately even if you don't smell...but heaven forbid we try to keep derelicts and perverts from sharing the same seat with our loved ones in a place that's supposed to be relatively safe. there's a multitude of places for them to go for help...BUT NOOOOOO...they want to hang out with the children.

bullsh!t...many of these douchewaffles are a bunch of drunks and/or drug addicts. the Seattle area is one of the best places with resources a plenty for the homeless. many to most don't access this help as there are many times stipulations that they can't show up totally wasted and can't use within the homeless shelters. this is why there are tent cities...so they have a place for their illegal activities without constant police presence. and besides...it's not lack of services OR free internet that's keepin these derelicts from gettin work. many are crazier than sh!thouse rats with substance abuse problems that they WON'T take free help for along with the many and lengthy criminal records they have. plus...they've had free access at all libraries that they're also allowed internet access to porn around children too. when you have one strokin their dong in front of your daughter...you'll start to have a different opinion. until then...you're just another of the wienie Seattle enablers helpin to suck resources dry for those that really want and need it. there's frickin help all over. get cleaned up and maybe you can have "free" internet.

Hopefully it never happens to you - you probably couldn't handle it.

now now...much like your example of some truly needful homeless people bein out there...not everyone that doesn't champion the homeless cause is a heartless millionaire that's never known hard times. it's hard to explain away everything that you type...but i do know there are SOME like your examples...BUT those SOME are not the norm and most on here flying the flag for the homeless are not about to invite them into their homes to meet the family. some of the good ones sadly become collateral damage lost through the cracks MOSTLY because of the multitude of liars...cheats and scofflaw drunks and junkies makin a bad name for them all. many people have just grown tired of sifting through the sh!t to find those one or two pearls you speak of. i do however pick n choose which "homeless" person/s i may give something to. however...i rarely agree with the Seattle political tards that want to waste even more tax payer money on many to most that just don't deserve it. even they don't want the hassle of tryin to pick n choose who truly deserves help...so...just give it to em all.

Helping the homeless takes less resources than it took to bale out all the major corporations that did not deserve to be saved. It is pennies to help them, not worthy of your contempt.

oh cry me a fuckin river. many of these homeless turds refuse to get help that is all around them and for that they DESERVE NOTHIN. and most of these oh so evil corporations are still providin jobs to millions that hopefully keep GOOD people from bein homeless and forced to stand next to a feet n ass smellin bum. and what are they providin? a pile of shit...a puddle of piss...a used syringe...a broken liquor bottle...a discarded condom...a danger to others that would like to safely use parks and be able to walk down a tax paid city street without bein accosted AND also a drain on resources that could be used for those truly in need. pennies to help them...then let em collect aluminum cans. take your ass out and help em directly yourself. invite 5 or 6 over for dinner to meet your girlfriend...wife...mother...aunt and maybe you have a nice daughter for them to hook up with. enabling douchewaffles like you and the other junkie lovers here do more to continue to make them a problem than the bums do themselves.

Tacoma City Light, (a public company) offers low cost internet/cable tv etc for much lower cost than Comcast via CLICK!
Seattle is considering the same-since THEY already own the poles and Fibre optic network…..put Comcast out of business

Re: Seattle City Council wants to fund internet in homeless camps
SEATTLE -- No home? No modem? No problem.

The city of Seattle wants to spend part of a $100,000 budget item to provide internet access in the city's homeless encampments.

"We are no longer looking at internet as a luxury. We have to make sure we provide humane services for everybody," said Councilmember Kshama Sawant, who is supporting the proposal.

It is still unclear as to whether the money would go to establish Wi-Fi in the city's homeless camps or more traditional, computer-based internet service there, Sawant said.

That is what happens when you elect a socialist to office...
 Quoting: TripleH

lets wake up and discern...... nobody in this country elects anybody. The world is governed by secret "councils" and they choose who RUNS and WHO WINS.... you the public just engage in the dog and pony show. When you ones in large enough numbers can see thru all this stuff.... "they" will be out of power.

Where is your potential power Christians.. you number in the millions as adults in this country and you sit around and do nothing.. which is still doing something.. but its not of God. You do not actualize your group power.... and neither do other groups in my country...

Why do people "join" political parties? There should be NO political parties at all.

And Triple H before you wrote that posts on "socialists" did you consider what happens when there is a very large number of HUNGRY people? It is far better to provide some care...
