It's either an indicator of record financial fuckery perpetrated on you by the Wall Street jew or an indicator that Europe and most of the rest of the world are just as fucked as you are. You can't tell me that in 1981, when factories still existed by the hundreds of thousands in your country. That the real industrial production of that era is equal to the dog washing, and car detailing, service non-economy bullshit businesses that make up the us business sector today. No fucking way. |

The US Dollar index explained: Currently, this index is calculated by factoring in the exchange rates of six major world currencies: the euro, Japanese yen, Canadian dollar, British pound, Swedish krona and Swiss franc. This index started in 1973 with a base of 100 and is relative to this base. This means that a value of 120 would suggest that the U.S. dollar experienced a 20% increase in value over the time period. Anonymous Coward User ID: 60523579 United States 04/16/2015 01:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ugh. A strong dollar, in good times, is good. It means, relative to other currencies, that the dollar purchasing power is higher. Ergo, the "cost" of imported goods is cheaper. The downside, and this is a big downside right now, is that the opposite of the above means that anything priced in dollars overseas becomes more expensive. Ergo, exported things cost more. This means that American manufacturing slows, because the prices are higher overseas and sales/exports slow. This, in turn, can lead to worsening unemployment. Want proof the entire global economy is nonsense? A strong US dollar right now is that proof. Our economy is crap, and being driven into a wall on purpose. The Dollar is just the least ugly girl at the ugly dance, so everyone else is flocking to it. It certainly isn't because of our strong growth. This should tell something about the rest of the world's economies. They're boned, too. We're just bigger. Just as boned, mind you. But, bigger. Meaning our boat sinks last. But, still sinks. For today. Who knows what tomorrow brings... |

Rising like a dead, bloated corpse. You should know that the only reason the US Dollar Index is so high is because of the HUGE DEMAND FOR US DOLLARS. But the big question is, why is there such a huge demand for US Dollars? The answer is simple. EVERYONE IN THE WORLD IS DUMPING PETRODOLLAR ASSETS In order to dump your petro-dollar assets, you need to sell them for... US DOLLARS |

Perhaps most important is the fact that a STRONG dollar kills exports (because it makes U.S. products so much more expensive), and it kills tourism (as it makes visits to the U.S. so much more expensive for foreign visitors). In general, most industrialized nations are engaged in battle to keep their currency lower than others for these very reasons. A consistently strong U.S. dollar is a VERY bad sign. |

Comparing the value of one fake paper rectangle to the value of another fake paper rectangle is meaningless. Only if you compare the U.S. dollar to real money (gold) can you get a true measure of its value. By that measure, the dollar is down more than 50% since 1981. Now you know why it takes so many more U.S. dollars to buy everything today than it did in 1981. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 60523579 Not really. It's more like the dollar is a pig with lipstick among the ugly girls. People aren't lining up to kiss it at all, it's all just rampant manipulation with zero reality connection whatsoever. Currencies aren't the only thing out of touch with reality, all markets are the same. It used to be stocks went up when businesses made money. Today stocks go up when the Fed makes money. The mere whisper that the Fed may make less new money next month has markets deflating in panic. This situation is lethal to the real economy and cannot last indefinitely. That's not the plan either, the plan is to run the whole thing into the ground and cause the most epic economic disaster of human history. We won't have to wait much longer now. |
