Anybody know anything about buying and selling domain names?
On a whim, when the bitcoin craze was at its highest point a couple years ago, I bought up a bunch of sports/bitcoin related domain names, including names like:

NBAbitcoin.com
NHLbitcoin.com
NCAAbitcoin.com
MLBbitcoin.com
NFLbitcoin.com
bitcoinsportinggoods.com
BitcoinNBA.com
BitcoinMLB.com
BitcoinNCAA.com

...and a few other non-sports related names.

Today, I got this email:

----

Hello!

Our client is interested in purchasing NHLbitcoin.com for a new project.

I located your contact information in a domain name whois lookup.

The buyer is an investor from Canada.

I represent his interests in this deal.

Are you still interested in selling?

The buyer can offer a good price.

If you have more names I can help you to sell them.

Are you an experienced seller?

Best Regards,

Jeremy Gainsford

Vice President

123 REG UK HOSTING

-----

I wrote and asked for him to provide his contact information and web address before I opened further discussion.

I did find this website, which looks legit:

[link to www.123-reg.co.uk (secure)]

However, I can find no evidence that a "Jeremy Gainsford" works there.

All that identity stuff will work itself out, but I am wondering how to actually do the transfer if they are for real and we agree on a price. I've never sold a domain before, and these are all hosted at GoDaddy.

Thanks SO MUCH in advance if anyone can offer any advice!

I suppose he could work there but just not show up on the website, but I've tried Googling and get Jeremy Gainsford okay, but nothing specifically connecting him to this UK-based web hosting business.

I am not at all tech savvy, so any help with understanding how such a transfer would work would be greatly appreciated.

I suppose I could contact GoDaddy directly about it, but I'd rather not alert them at this early stage, and would prefer to know something about it in case somebody there might try something funny....

This is easy, negotiate the price.

Tell them to send half to your bitcoin wallet.

Then after you give them the domain registry information, tell them to send the other half.

Hosting is completely different from Domain name registrar.
123 is just a company that sells domain names, and they are legit.

However you may have better luck using the GoDaddy auction.

The market for buying and reselling domain names is not what it once was
I know a thing or two, because I've seen a thing or two.

They claim they do both and are the largest in the UK:

From their website:

-----------------

We don't like to boast, but...

We've registered over 3 million domain names and host over 1.7 million websites, making us the largest domain provider in the UK.

We're an integral part of the HEG, the largest privately-owned hosting company in Europe. The Group also includes Webfusion, Heart Internet, Host Europe and RedCoruna. Offering a wide range of services including website hosting products, UK reseller web hosting and managed hosting services, the HEG makes every step of setting up online as easy as 1, 2, 3.

OK.

Thanks!

Do you know what the "domain registry information" consists of?

I may have known a couple years ago, but I am not sure anymore as nothing has happened until now, and I haven't paid any attention to this stuff.

I am not the person to try scamming, as I am familiar with most of them, and my dad (poor guy) is sitting in a Spanish prison as we speak as a result of his interactions with scammers....

Re: Anybody know anything about buying and selling domain names?
I've purchased and sold many domain names. If the person works for that particular company, which is a legit company. Ask for their phone number to talk more about this. With domain names, you should not provide the auth details until you are fully paid. If not through an escrow service full payment in your bitcoin account.
