This is the first veto override during the Obama presidency. Quoting: The Basket Of Deplorables The override vote was the “single most embarrassing thing the Senate has done" in over two decades, White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters Wednesday afternoon. I distinctly remember a big debate about our government paying compensation to the victims of 911 at the time it happened, that it was not the taxpayers responsibility to compensate families, but I think it passed anyway. So, families have already received compensation from the U.S. (and likely the airlines)and now they are pressing for more. I do believe the compensation was granted for this specific reason, to prevent suing other governments. Many thought it was Iraq at the time. |

Obama knows it was a inside job and the Saudis know too. This will kill the dollar and Obama will let the cat out of the bag and kill trust in any politicians but himself. Declare National emergency and suspend the elections. nice. this is what i was asking about. |

That's going to be a tall mountain to climb. How many are willing to go to Saudi Arabia and start digging around for proof? Take depositions of Saudi Royals? Demand to see their bank accounts? They better hope they have all the proof they need right here because I don't see them digging in the sand over there and finding anything. |

And they will also have to prove that 15 Saudis were actually involved in this alleged attack. Can someone tell me how they are going to do that? Where is the evidence to prove this happened? |

It seems shale oil and other things have to a great extent killed whatever hold the Saudis had over the US gov. Otoh, this is kind of unprecedented, and does opens up a can of worms in regards of foreigners suing the US for whatnot. Which is the reason most, if not all, US corporations lobbied against it. Anyway, the consequences of this will be very interesting to follow. |

It was to defend the fledgling petrodollar...so this is subterfuge to allow the us govt to Welch on their obligations.... It is so easy when understand what kind of crooks with whom you are dealing. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69101678 Tbh, Saudi Arabia got it's own internal problems. I recently read a very interesting analysis that projected that the House of Saud days in power is coming to an end. They have been playing with fire, encouraging the wahhabite movement but are losing their control, not in small part due to lower oil prices which have put a huge dent in their bank accounts. I reckon any trials will take years, and by the end, there might not be a counterparty to make the payments.. |

The kingdom maintains an arsenal of tools to retaliate with, including curtailing official contacts, pulling billions of dollars from the U.S. economy, and persuading its close allies in the Gulf Cooperation Council to scale back counterterrorism cooperation, investments and U.S. access to important regional air bases.
