Re: BREAKING: Congress Overrides Obama's Veto On "Sue The Saudis" 9/11 Bill, Senate Voted 97-1, House Voted 348-77
"Congress overwhelmingly voted to override President Barack Obama’s veto of the bill that would allow Americans to potentially sue Saudi Arabia for 9/11. This is the first veto override during the Obama presidency.

The override vote was the “single most embarrassing thing the Senate has done" in over two decades, White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters Wednesday afternoon.

I'm no Obutthole supporter, but I have reservations about this, as pointed out in article.

I distinctly remember a big debate about our government paying compensation to the victims of 911 at the time it happened, that it was not the taxpayers responsibility to compensate families, but I think it passed anyway. So, families have already received compensation from the U.S. (and likely the airlines)and now they are pressing for more. I do believe the compensation was granted for this specific reason, to prevent suing other governments. Many thought it was Iraq at the time.

An economic collapse due to this would make for one helluva "October surprise"
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71537675

Total setup. Obama knows it was a inside job and the Saudis know too. This will kill the dollar and Obama will let the cat out of the bag and kill trust in any politicians but himself. Declare National emergency and suspend the elections.

They've got a lot of assets here. Seize that shit.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72917035

You guys all seem to be forgetting that they have to prove in court the Saudi government knew about these hijackers and their plans and funded it. That's going to be a tall mountain to climb. How many are willing to go to Saudi Arabia and start digging around for proof? Take depositions of Saudi Royals? Demand to see their bank accounts? They better hope they have all the proof they need right here because I don't see them digging in the sand over there and finding anything.

Before the families of the 9/11 victims can a collect ONE DIME in damages from the Saudi government, they will have to PROVE to a jury that the Saudi government was responsible in some way for the actions of the ALLEGED hijackers.

And they will also have to prove that 15 Saudis were actually involved in this alleged attack.

Can someone tell me how they are going to do that?

Where is the evidence to prove this happened?

Senate and Congress realize the people are WAKING UP and now they are afraid of getting the BOOT. Sue the Saudis and hopefully they will spill the beans on the Israelis and US Black ops teams pulling off 911. Would be nice to expose the faker in the whitehouse while they are at it and nullify everything he signed.

Someone else may have pointed this out already, but of the 77 "no" votes in the House, 59 of those votes were from Democrats. Somewhat telling . . . perhaps they were easier to bribe by the Saudis than Republicans? ; )

I'm not sure what to think about this.

Part of me is "about time congress does their job"
And the other is like "hmmm what part of the agenda is this written in?"

I mean, I just have zero faith in the government as a whole.

Andddddd this coupled with Comey's comments about Isis, seems like a set up for controlled disaster.

(Edited to add the Comey comment thread I made earlier today)

Most interesting.

It seems shale oil and other things have to a great extent killed whatever hold the Saudis had over the US gov.

Otoh, this is kind of unprecedented, and does opens up a can of worms in regards of foreigners suing the US for whatnot. Which is the reason most, if not all, US corporations lobbied against it.

Anyway, the consequences of this will be very interesting to follow.

Tbh, Saudi Arabia got it's own internal problems. I recently read a very interesting analysis that projected that the House of Saud days in power is coming to an end.

They have been playing with fire, encouraging the wahhabite movement but are losing their control, not in small part due to lower oil prices which have put a huge dent in their bank accounts.

I reckon any trials will take years, and by the end, there might not be a counterparty to make the payments..

A great opportunity for non-whites to show tiny USA who the boss is by taking a number of actions such as banning,

1. USA culture,

2. english,

3. use of dollar,

4. travel to USA and

5. buying of USA products and services.

" DUBAI, United Arab Emirates –  Saudi Arabia and its allies are warning that U.S. legislation allowing the kingdom to be sued for the 9/11 attacks will have negative repercussions.

The kingdom maintains an arsenal of tools to retaliate with, including curtailing official contacts, pulling billions of dollars from the U.S. economy, and persuading its close allies in the Gulf Cooperation Council to scale back counterterrorism cooperation, investments and U.S. access to important regional air bases.
