Field test indicated it was meth -- not the deputy's fault -- quit cop bashing .

The man arrested does deserve an apology -- but that is all
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35666158

Gee wilikers, guy; you think maybe they cooked the test?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72218857

Read the article -- guy says he doesn't blame the deputies -- they were just doing their job (keeping the public safe)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35666158

Stockholm Syndrome.

Just doing their job. If you consider "kidnapping and locking into a cage innocent humans" part of their job, yeah, the cop did his job great.

Apology?! His frikken cat didn't get fed for 3 damn days! Probably had to eat his own feces. Drink his own pee. What if he had a child?! Or an elderly parent he had to take care of? Apology doesn't cut it-they need to be sued. The only legal force available to the citizenry against 'law enforcement'.

"Field test" Heard that one before...! LMAO

Imagine living in a country where the state enforcers "routinely" stop people for nothing. And then put you in jail for nothing for 3 days.

Thank goodness I live in a real free country, and never once been stopped in 25 years of driving.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73408854

Free country, that's hilarious.
You are disarmed.
You are chattel property of the crown.
Your daily life is under the oppression we complain about on the horizon.

Fool
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73752173

Are we competing as to who has the worst country? lol

Correct, no guns. But very few blacks with guns too.

Never been stopped while driving. Never been stopped on the street. In fact I never had police speak to me in any way. 40+ year old.

The only friend I know who has been stopped by police was because she had a customised number plate on her car the automated reader couldnt read. The police told her to get it changed. She asked, dont you have anything better to do? End of story. In America she would probably bed dead now.

We pretty much go about our lives with zero interference from law enforcement.

Prostitution legal in the UK.

Weed use ignored. No one went to prison ever for smoking weed.

People can buy alcohol aged 18.

Lesson learned. What ever they test in the field will be positive for drugs. Same for DUI. You will test positive without ever having a drink. Fact.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73533195

Serious question. If you get pulled over and are asked to take a breathalyzer, and you haven't had any drinks, do you comply? My instinct would say yes, take the stupid test because you know you're in the right. What happens if you do comply, and the test comes back positive? How can you possibly fight that? Seems like you could ask for a blood test or a piss test, but I think at that point I'd want to talk to my lawyer asap.
 Quoting: New Age Scam Artist

But they don't clean the test equipment each time, so you WILL test positive... just saying it.

A sock or something similar filled with the super absorbent clumping cat litter will soak up moisture that is in your car. Leaver it on your windshield overnight and you will be surprised at the change. There is also a white powder, that I can not think of the name of that is even better but having a sock of white powder in your car is just asking fir a night in jail

Actually the road side drug test kits need to be addressed nation wide. They have been noted to test positive for any substance put into them. Including cat liter, Hershey's chocolate, Tylenol and a bunch of other things.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 54156286

^^THIS^^

And the cops like it that way. Drug test kits that go positive on many substances that are not illegal drugs.

No, they do not want accurate tests.

Much of this "drug war" is about civil asset forfeiture. The cops get to keep your car, money, and other valuables. It's a nightmare trying to get it back from them, even if you are innocent.

Re: Deputies mistake kitty litter for meth; after 3 days in jail, suspect cleared
The reason he had kitty litter in a sox.

"The trick is actually so simple, and you only have to make it once. After that, you leave it inside your car for the whole season and let it work its magic. What do you do? Fill a sock with kitty litter!

Cat litter is specifically designed to absorb moisture (for obvious reasons), including moisture in the air around it. Without extra water trapped in the air inside your car, there will be much less, if any condensation on the inside of your windows.

This works in the winter because the outside temperature is lower than inside your car, which is what contributes to the condensation on the inside of your windshield. However, the same underlying problem is what causes your windows to fog in the summer on a cool rainy day. Consider this: if you have a cold glass of water outside, condensation appears on the outside of the glass. This excess water comes from the warm air that comes into contact with the glass.

How to De-Fog Your Window With Cat Litter"

He spent 3 days in jail, lost his job and his name. He is going to get much, much more than an apology and well-deserved. It's their responsibility to have accurate testing equipment if you can ruin a persons life based on the result (duh).

The guy learned a lesson. Never, ever, allow the police to search your car without a warrant. Even if you're innocent, make them get a warrant.

He will get some money out of this. You have to show loss in order to get punitive damages. Dude lost his job. He will be fine...and his wallet a bit fatter after this is all over.
I didn't mean to do that...or did I?
