Yes, they were designed to be watertight. In my observations over the years, there was always a trickle of water leaking from the gates at high water levels.

Usually running down the left side as viewed from the bottom, maybe 8-10 feet wide. Just enough to wet the concrete and run off the bottom.

Not the 50' gushing waterfalls as we are seeing today. DWR 'truth' changes with the conditions and circumstances of the day.

Always perfect and normal according to DWR. In 2017 when the ES was about to fail due to erosion, DWR considered it perfect and normal.

Interesting the mention of work being done on the RVOS that was mentioned in the article.

I know there was an incident in the past with the RVOS in which some employees were severely injured. And that the RVOS valves needed to be replaced.

And that the new valves, when received, did not meet spec.

So they were returned to the manufacturer (China?) to be reworked.

I was under the impression that the RVOS is currently operational, but apparently mistaken.

It is difficult to keep up with DWR doublespeak.

O dam, below Almanor's seismically active fault, under a dam and reservoir holding back 1/3 the amount of water in O lake.

What could go wrong?

The possibilities are endless.

Regardless of the situation, you can rest assured everything is going along with DWR's plan.

That plan might change tomorrow (or in the next 5 minutes), but it is all good.

You might have noticed they have removed all reference to the spillway gate replacement plan that was supposed to have been started back in June.

That is because the situation changed, so DWR edited/deleted their plans to avoid looking stupid.

It isn't working.

So are they going to fix the gates or what? They have to don't they? Its even more urgent now with this double waterfall leak going on. Unless it isn't the least bit urgent at all.
