Cause of the sweet weather and chill atmosphere the rest of the time?

Why do people live near Yellowstone? Why do people live in Earthquake or volcano zones?

Okay okay, what do I know, I don't recall ever even being to Cali, but up north on the Canada side, the weather is sweet!

Climate, and if you're wealthy you can network with other movers and shakers, and build a mansion to keep the riff-raff out of sight.

But the climate alone cannot offset all the bad things about the state like high taxes, increasing crime, wildfires, homeless,poverty,too many immigrants stealing jobs from American workers.

Actually property taxes don't rise in California.

My grandma still pays $500 a year. The exact same amount as when she bought the house in 1980.

And the wildfires only affect idiots who build in the wilderness.

I pay more property taxes here in Texas than I did property and income taxes combined in California.

Just sayin.

She's making bank on Prop 13 (which froze property taxes for anyone who owned property at the time until it changed hands) then, everybody else was not that fortunate and *big surprise!* the state legislature is currently working on legislation to undermine that. That said, they come up with new or higher taxes on something nearly every year.

Because people living there, don't need to rely on Breitbart or Fox News?

You guys think living in Denmark is the worst thing, that can happen, right.

Even though, by most metrics, it is far superior to shithole US.

A friend of mine moved to Dallas,Tx 5 years ago. He was complaining about how bad the property taxes are.

Some of the best of surf in America, great weather and more opportunities to play outside then almost anywhere else, there is always something fun to do here. Which is probably why it's so damn expensive.

I live on PCH in the Huntington beach area. No problems here. You couldn't afford to live here anyways.

I have a small apartment on the beach in South OC and a cabin in the mountains that I go back and forth between. I’m either surfing or snowboarding. Great legal weed, sunshine 300 days a year and hot OC milf’s wearing next to nothing pretty much year around. Yea, California sucks. Don’t come here, you can’t afford it😄

First off, California is NOT a shit hole. It's beautiful here. We have gorgeous beaches, skiing 90 minutes away, Vegas 5 hours away, hikes over looking the sea, amazing restaurants and nightlife, the people are the friendliest you will find anywhere (I live in San Diego) the weather is perfect always...
That being said, I am so sick of evacs. We have had to leave 4 different times in the last 10 years and I'm so over it. Most of my family is here and it's usually one of us packing up. When fires get close and we are on watch, I swear I want to move away. The problem is once you've lived here you just can't imagine living anywhere else. So I guess bottom line is it's worth the hassle.

It’s expensive but worth it. Especially if you have a rad job. Paddles out at river jetties this morning. Grease calm, Small kine waves but so fun on the mini fish. Waiting for my California burrito from Roberto’s now, gonna go home drink some corona, smoke a bowl, take a nap and go surf some more before skier chasing tonight in Newport.

I moved to San Diego from Chicago recently. Illinois is just as corrupt, horrible taxes, except the weather is awful and people are much more miserable. I've got the ocean, beach, mountains, desert, constant sun, legal weed and a chilled out vibe.

Absolute no brainer if you ask me.

Even though California property taxes are only 0.72%, and Texas is 1.9%, most of the time people in Texas will still pay less property tax (in dollars $$) because homes typically cost 4-5x more in California.

Factor in all the other taxes in California, and it clearly earns it's liberal reputation.

Even with all the taxes in California, the state is still more than $1.3 trillion dollars (some studies show over $2.3 trillion dollars) in debt.
