You have to have hope in a better future.

At least "hope" can then live in your head, rather than fear and hopelessness at some of the reality we are now living through.

Some of us, like me, remember better times in the past. I have hope that someday they will return. The world cannot be this bad for too much longer. Globalism is dying, that is hope with substance, that is a start for better times, at least I hope.

Is a great year...Nam was ending...Nixon re elected no Watergate yet....Bobby Fischer....Mark Spitz....Reds vs Athletics in world series...17 and 0 Dolphins...Detroit Muscle...music was all over the place.....everybody drove with windows down to be social....drive ins...Traditional education emphasized critical thinking.....cops just poured out your beer and told you to go home...

The CINCINNATI REDS went to the world series for the second time in 3 years and lost to the OAKLAND A'S in 7 games.

OAKLAND would win the world series in 72 73 74

CINCINNATI would wind the world series in 75 76

Are you from Cleveland? Hardly anyone else knows about them.

I prefer the Stones, Zep and Roxy Music, Santana etc. in that timeline.

it began in '72? no other year JUST '72?

It was on the radio all the time, til at least '80

i remember this song. i was about 7. remember my buddy forced me to go to the record store with him to buy this. i didnt want to go because i hated this song. even then i was a musical snob. at 7 i was listening to the guess who, 3 dog night, the rolling stones, the beatles, eric clapton. i wouldnt listen to the osmonds or other kids groups, mostly hard rock, with some tasteful pop, country, blues and funk.

stuff i liked around 72-75:

american woman, joy to the world, put your hand in the hand, pinball wizard elton and who version, abc, crying in the chapel, you sexy thing, i shot the sheriff bob and eric version, margaritaville, me and bobby mcgee, blue bayou linda rondstand version, lady marmalade, band on the run, sir duke, wasted days and wasted nights, 25 or 6 to 4, beethoven and the soundtrack to the movie 2001.

stuff i didnt like:

doctors orders, fly robin fly, afternoon delight, anything by donny and marie or david cassidy or leif garrett or most early disco.

carol douglas has a good voice though. speaking of which how about some carl douglas?

just reading now that carol's cousin was sam cooke, another of my early favs, and her dad was the inspiration for minnie the moocher.

AbbA won eurovision in '74. One wonders whether they would have amounted to anything had they not. The exposure catapulted them and it was something about that catchy song, "Waterloo"

Eurovision Song Contest ended yesterday. Netherlands won.
