We don't get many hot summers as usually it's just grey and wet all the year round. I'm enjoying the sun and not minding the heat. My dogs are fine. I'm keeping them cool by just leaving all doors and windows open. Last weekend we were in an hotel in Swindon, but it was OK as our room was airy and cool. They fuck you up, your mum and dad. They may not mean to, but they do. They fill you with the faults they had And add some extra, just for you. But they were fucked up in their turn By fools in old-style hats and coats, Who half the time were soppy-stern And half at one another’s throats. Man hands on misery to man. It deepens like a coastal shelf. Get out as early as you can, And don’t have any kids yourself. Philip Larkin. |

Had to put old my dinosaur air conditioner in my bedroom window and it now blocks the view... Uh... and i mean the view ya look at and say WOW ! Not that crew of "b" words on TV. Fortunately i am OLD and learned a few tricks about staying cool from my mother. Like doing laundry which is composed of things that have to dry naturally. Hang them on the curtain rods in door ways and then aim the window fans at them... That is old fashion air conditioning. And it works. Also pulled curtains and dimmed lights as they produce heat. Then break out those wonderful old 1930s movie tapes i got for free at the recycling center. And went to the grocery and got lots of fresh food to chop up and munch on while i watch them. And perked up a bunch of natural ice tea. Adding fresh lemon juice after it cooled.... People up here... Well at least us republicans up here know how to deal with Heat and Cold plus Rain and Snow. While the Democrats are running around complaining and whinning and drinking a cold beer or two or three or four or more....... and more yet. Ya got to love em .... Just like ya would any DUMB animal !!! Lol! Love your old school ways! :) stay cool! :) Making sammiches great again! USA! USA! USA! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77422316 We've had hotter summers before that went easily over 100. Nope. Humidity was not this high in the past. Heat Waves Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76871995 US heat wave and frequency are increasing Heat waves can be defined in many ways. For consistency across the country, this indicator defines a heat wave as a period of two or more consecutive days where the daily minimum apparent temperature (actual temperature adjusted for humidity) in a particular city exceeds the 85th percentile of historical July and August temperatures (1981–2010) for that city. This approach is useful for several reasons: The most serious health impacts of a heat wave are often associated with high temperatures at night, which is when the daily minimum usually occurs. If the air temperature stays too warm at night, the body faces extra strain as the heart pumps harder to try to regulate body temperature. Adjusting for humidity is important because when humidity is high, water does not evaporate as easily, so it is harder for the human body to cool off by sweating. That is why health warnings about extreme heat are often based on the “heat index,” which combines temperature and humidity. By using the 85th percentile for each individual city, this indicator defines “unusual” in terms of local conditions. A specific temperature like 95°F might be considered unusually hot in one city but perfectly normal in another city. Plus, people in relatively warm regions (such as the Southwest) may be better acclimated and adapted to hot weather. [link to www.globalchange.gov (secure)] . Great article here ^^ . |

Northern California (?) and Louisiana (NOLA) lead the pack for heat wave season length. Florida (Miami) and Louisiana (NOLA) lead the pack for frequency. *based on - Heat waves can be defined in many ways. Heat waves are occurring more often than they used to in major cities across the United States, from an average of two heat waves per year during the 1960s to nearly six per year during the 2010s. The average heat wave season across 50 major cities is 45 days longer than it was in the 1960s. Of the 50 metropolitan areas in this indicator , 43 experienced a statistically significant increase in heat wave frequency; and 45 experienced significant increases in season length, between the 1960s and 2010s.
