Opioid addiction is indeed very difficult to shake.

Over a hundred years ago, physicians called it GOM (God's Own Medecine). When opiates are pure, they are addictive but the side effects are manageable.

Its the street drugs killing people.

In 1915 when opiates become illegal we had 5 million addicts mostly women. It was prescribed like Prozac in those days for psychological problems, stress, anxiety, insomnia, etc.

Most of those people had jobs or raised children, went to church on Sunday, and were NOT criminals.

I don't see why we cannot allow physicians to prescribe opiates to people who we KNOW are addicted. We would need careful control to ensure that they don't re-sell the drugs.

Perhaps we could require a residential facility for addicts so they could get safe, controlled amounts of drugs.

Needle exchanges don't deal with the OD problem of street drugs.

I understand that people prefer that drug addicts attend rehab. However, beating addiction is very difficult and we need to have an alternative.

70,000 deaths per year. War on drugs has gone on for generations. Prisons full of users who became dealers. Cartels getting rich and powerful.

It is time to try a different approach.

if you dont' know the molecular weight and you don't know how to make them, take them, etc.

also if any other race had this much death and destruction in their lives and communities it would make a National news. But if you are white and poor no one cares.

I'm sorry for your friends loss. I tried it out of curiosity 15+ years ago. It seemed harmless at first and turned into a dangerous habit very quickly within months. I liked getting high. Luckily I realized that I had a problem and was able to quit. I haven't touched any drugs since. The best advice that I can give is to never try it at all.

Sorry sorry to hear. Same here with my neighbor’s son. (My mother’s best friend). Grew up with him. Baby sat for him. Knew him his whole life in his early 30s It’s definitely a war in this country. Shame on them. Someone makes a lot of money for sure
