Eliminate all sugar and grains from your diet immediately. Avoid vegetable oils, super bad. Stay a million miles away from corn syrup, processed and refined foods. Eat a high fat diet consisting of meat, organ meats, fish, eggs, butter, and you will see quick improvements. |

Make Sun Tea, add no sugar, just lemon if you want.Cut out all junk food, switch to chicken, and add more veggies to your diet. You got to lose some weight. Chances are, if you lose the weight and change your diet, you might not be diabetic anymore. Praise God from Whom all Blessings flow !!! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 78059302 United States 10/06/2019 10:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm looking for advice from others that have this disease. Quoting: SoberLife I just ordered a book called Bright Spots and Landmines, which came highly recommended. I'm confused on how I need to transition my lifestyle. Any good cookbooks or food apps that will help me? Any and all advice is appreciated. Thank you I'm currently 56yrs old(male) and I've beat my "Diabetes" About 12 years ago I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes when I went in to have my Gallbladder out. I had a fasting Blood Glucose Level of 350(normal is 80-100) and previous blood work the week before had it at 400 ! I was put on the standard meds, Metformin(2000mg), Lisinopril(Blood Pressure) and Simvastatin(Cholesterol) ....and told to follow the American Diabetes Association Diet. Up till that point I had always been "healthy", well at least I thought I was...In reality this had been building for years due to poor eating habits(junk food) So, like most, I started to try and improve my diet and exercise. It was/has been a struggle to say the least...I'll explain: 1. Following the ADA diet didn't work, I'd eat as they say and my BGL would still rise(greatly at times)...After almost a year of that with NO improvement I quit, and switched to Adkins 2. The Adkins diet offered weight loss and an improved BGL but I was still considered "Diabetic" by medical standards. and I kept craving sugar and salt constantly and was hungry most times. Personal info: I'm 5'7" and have ranged from 145lb at 18yrs to 216lb at my heaviest...when I started "beating diabetes" I was 206lb As I said, the Adkins diet offered benefits but I stayed hungry. I've spent countless hours "sweating" doing Aerobics and lifting weights but at 3mo, 6mo etc...with no real results so I always gave up. So fast forward to mid July 2019...woke up one morning and even though I was once again trying to "eat right" my BGL was 140, this was with the addition of Glipizide(another diabetes med) to the Metformin. I decided to look for help again..... I found it ! Dr. Sten Ekberg: [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] Just watching his explanation(s) of how human physiology worked and how to exercise properly I've been able to drop to 180lb(as of this morning) and have a 84 BGL(WITHOUT ANY MEDS !!) So here's my current Diet and Exercise program *Diet: NO/LOW Carbohydrates NO Bread NO Pasta NO Rice NO Potatoes I read labels and strive to keep Carbs at 30 grams or below if possible NOTHING passes my lips that has more that 1 gram of Sugar(But I strive to avoid Sugar at all cost) I eat Meats(Chicken, Beef, Pork, Fish) and ignore "No Fat/Low Fat" foods/claims....The MORE Fat the better !!! Also Salad and other Veggies(check nutritional info and avoid the high carb and sugar ones) I use liquid Stevia in my Coffee, and liquid only(the packets/powders pose a problem I'll cover later) I do keep several "Sugarless" hard candies available but only have one every 2 days or so *note on the "Bad fours" After you get your body back to some symblance of "healthy" then you can have Pasta, Rice every so often(once every two weeks at first, more as you "Heal") Oh HELL that dreaded word "Exercise" You have to get off the couch and out of the recliner !!!! Look at Dr. Ekberg's vid(YouTube) on Exercise for explanation You'll need a Heart rate monitor for best results Once you determine your HR and find the 60% number(Just google Heart Rate for Exercise formula) to calculate your rate...Mine is currently 130bpm....Don't exercise above the 60% bpm...doing so just negates any weight loss gains....See the vid, Ekberg explains why . So for me: 60mins of walking/fast walking to reach and hold the 130bpm goal 3 mins total(2 to 3 times a week) of the HIIT(High Intensity Interval Training) explained in Dr. Ekberg's vid and that's it...NO WEIGHTS At this time(Will come later) So that's it...You can do it !!! but only if you really set your mind to it |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 78059302 United States 10/06/2019 10:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Explanation on "Alternative Sweeteners" Aspartame Saccharin Sucralose(Splenda) ARE ALL POISON . Now, the Powdered "revelation" These sweeteners(including Stevia) are very potent for their weight. You would not be able to stand drinking anything(Cup of Coffee) "sweetened" with a Full pack of "powdered" stuff, they're just too potent ...The Mfgs have to "Cut it" with something "else" most times that "else" is, believe it or not, Glucose !!! So the FDA allows a Manufacture to call their product a "Artificial Sweetener" even though it actually contains "Sugar"(Glucose) Liquid* Stevia is the only thing I've found that's safe ... *they do offer some tiny "pill" size tablets for travel and such...just read the label and avoid any with "extras" like Maltodextrin(Which I'll cover in a sec) Maltodextrin ...Awww heaven forbid this abomination !!! Maltodextrin: [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] Maltodextrin is a polysaccharide that is used as a food additive. It is produced from starch by partial hydrolysis and is usually found as a white hygroscopic spray-dried powder. Maltodextrin is easily digestible, being absorbed as rapidly as glucose and may be either moderately sweet or almost flavorless (depending on the degree of polymerisation). It is commonly used for the production of soft drinks and candy. It can also be found as an ingredient in a variety of other processed foods. Almost ALL of those 'Diet' / "Low Fat" / Diabetic / "Sugar Free" .. "Foods" you see in the stores contain Maltodextrin...Which most people's bodies treat and react to as "SUGAR" STAY AWAY from Maltodextrin |

What works for some, doesn't work for others. The basic rock bottom way to beat diabetes 2 is to only eat as much as you are going to burn, on top of the 1,000-2,000 calories we burn naturally each day. I started with a 300 calorie a day diet for a month and walked as much as I could, each night, on a treadmill. I dropped from 365 lbs, my heaviest, to 180 lbs. IN 6 MONTHS! My diabetes 2 was GONESVILLE!!! I felt great, I finally got a sex life (which was completely missing from my life, because I was a fat slob!) If you follow what I tell you, you will lose the weight and the diabetes. Good Luck, God Bless! |
