The Neanderthal brain was bigger than ours but it was dominated by the area of the brain involved with vision while our brains are dominated by the area involved in logic. That plus the huge hominid eyes say that the Neanderthal brain was to a large extent the neurological equivalent of a military night vision device.

Fatal to the evolosers is the fact that humans are not related to hominids at all other than via similar design. Humans and hominids don't even originate on the same world.

Thought it was commonly accepted now that neanderthals were mute. They couldn't speak because the back of the throat was shaped like an infant's. That's why they died out. No real way to transmit knowledge to future generations. So every generation was the first or second back at square one. It's kind of obvious when you think about it and have studied paleontology a bit.

Very unlikely. Such massive changes do not occur so quickly. Neanderthals and mammoths were still around only a split second ago in geologic time. Earths atmosphere and solar system did not change so drastically in a so short of time. Impossible. Many more creatures would still have those adaptations today.

Neanderthals supposedly "died out" 40,000 years ago, while mammoths died out on Wrangel Island just 3500 years ago.

Also, Europeans have 4% Neanderthal DNA, so they're not really extinct formally.

If a Neanderthal was dressed in modern clothes, no one would take a second look at him.

Well I'd like to agree with your sentiment but I can't. Have you ever seen that Russian boxer Nikolai Valuev? He seems to me to be part Neanderthal. Not completely but there is some link there.
