That is how brutal the industry is. Even worse after all that he was left to the meat man, he was rescued from a kill pen by the horse rescue that gave him to me. They say "Never look a gift horse in the mouth." He was gorgeous sadly he did not live long due to his condition, while he was alive he cost over $350 a month to care for (not including vet bills), just daily maintenance and feed. Horses are beautiful but very expensive to care for. When you consider most racehorses careers are over by age 2, that is 28 years of caring for them at over $350 a month so that is why they are routinely dumped like garbage or sold to the meatman. Very sad, there is no future for them after racing. Most rescues are full, NTWO will not bail or rescue them from kill buyers so they are shit out of luck. Yet the game continues and new foals are bought and sold and dumped...repeat... |

Imagine running on a hard dirt track and one of your horse shoes steps on a wet "sponge" at 30 mph and you have a rider on your back whipping you to go faster and are on some kind of "Jeffrey" concoction of pain killers, imagine your legs get slipped up on the sponge at top speed and you snap your leg. You are instantly killed on the track in front of all your fans. Second of all I am going to answer your questions... 1) What happens to the horses when you shut down racing? What happens to the horses if we do not shut down racing? Of the 20,000 thoroughbreds born every year HALF ARE KILLED ANYWAY! Shipped to slaughter as soon as they are not deemed profitable anymore healthy or not. Why are you saying that the greedy bastards who own and abuse these horses would no longer want them when racing is over and they would ALL be slaughtered...let's assume half of them were going to be slaughtered anyway. So 10,000 extra horses get killed the first year. The next year that same # of lives would be saved, actually double that!
