Re: How large was your trick-or-treater volume this year?
It's getting lesser every year because most are getting lazy and doing the trunk or treater. Not fun anymore. That's why I stopped. I think I only saw 3 kids tonight before the storm came.

Ya we had trunk or treat here too. Back home, 600 miles away we picked up some speed, last year more kids. Talk to the family tomorrow give and update.

I'm just curious if maybe the holiday is dying. My bf and I are noticing fewer and fewer every year.

Just came back from driving through the strip. Since it’s on a Thursday we decided to drive through the strip rather than walk through it since we got work the next day. But maybe the reason why not as many people is because it’sa work week. But we noticed not as many people dressed up this year. If they did dress it it was very lazy and a lot of repeated costumes. My gf and I dressed up even though we were driving rather than walking. Sad indeed

Lots of kids, most ever.

Word must have gone around about the candy cigarettes that were being given as well as the full size candy - only got em as they were cheaper than buying the “halloween” packs of minis.

I didn't know they still sold candy cigarettes!

Yeah, I used to too. The parents are more greedier than the kids when it comes to candy, the kids barely dress up anymore with costumes, and the trunk and treaters are taking them all to a spot where they don't have to actually walk. ;p Used to be fun, but not anymore. They get lazier every year which is why you see the depletion of kids actually walking around. No one wants to participate anymore.

Same here, but all of my grown kids live in big neighborhoods, they all told me there were only a few kids, perhaps it was because it was a school night? But I think kids are too preoccupied with their freaking cell phones, even the toddlers are under their spell. Rather than being kids and actually going outside to enjoy life, they sit in a dank and dark room texting.

Re: How large was your trick-or-treater volume this year?
It was definitely much less in my neighborhood. My kids still got a good take because it’s a big neighborhood. But last year there were at least double the houses giving things out.

PC culture doesn’t just affect the costumes either. It’s also turning people off from handing stuff out. You see people bitching online about people that don’t have sugar free, allergen free, gluten free, whatever free options too. Every house is supposed to be all inclusive. And you aren’t allowed to be aggravated if someone doesn’t say thank you anymore either. Give stuff away for free no matter how you’re treated.

Add to that the fact that a lot of parents participate in the candy buy back crap. If I was a kid and didn’t get to keep the candy I “earned” then I would feel like what’s the point? Walking door to door is fun, but the goal is the mountain of candy. Ok, now give it away. No thanks. I would find something different to do.

Last year we had about 8, but this year we only had two kids. I told them to take what they went and one little girl grabbed two handfuls in her tiny little hands. It was so cute! chuckle

Two school districts near Chicago have ended in-school Halloween celebrations.

"While we recognize that Halloween is a fun tradition for many, it is not a holiday that is celebrated by everyone for various reasons and we want to honor that. We are also aware of the range of inequities that are embedded in Halloween celebrations that take place as part of the school day and the unintended negative impact that it can have on students, families, and staff."

In other words, religious and financial reasons.

My neighbor's opinion is that Jewlsh, Muslims and piss poor immigrants are wrecking Halloween for everyone else.

hi
I think people are starting to get back out in the neighborhoods now around my area anyway it was good to see this year... when the town is too big and they do these giant corporate sponsored events that create frenzied energy like at the mall or down on “Main Street” it’s not good for family and community bonding like the good old fashioned neighborhood days...

Gone are the days of all the neighborhood kids gleefully running around 8 blocks, lugging tons of candy the whole way, seeing only 2 dark porches in the bunch. No more happy children pretending to be superheros, witches, vampires, princesses. Long gone are the little pumpkin buckets from McDonald's happy meals and those little ghost flashlights that light their merry way.

Halloween is dead.

Long live the memory.

20 kiddos, tops, or around 6 knocks at the door. Most were coming after the trunk and treat was over down at the local church. We were giving candy away by the handfuls but still left a a huge amount of diabetes that needs to be dealt with.

None. Halloween is an American thing. Some have tried doing it here, but most Aussies don't get into it, and it's the wrong time of the year anyway.

I think word has gotten around about my neighborhood too. Cars were pulling up, letting kids out. Halloween is contagious, when one neighbor decorates and gives out candy, the rest of the neighbors imitate

I don't think their doing a makeover tonight or tomorrow. Most went to the churches for the trunk or treat laziness. I'm glad I stopped doing Halloween. Not worth it anymore.

Used to be about scaring the kids. And making Halloween go around the yard as haunted house. Not anymore.

Now, it's just about, give me the damn candy. We don't care about the decorations, or the time you put into it to create a scene.

yes, weather got bad, but they had 3 hours before the weather hit.

Glad I shut my door and shut the lights off.
