At my job, we're already working 50 hrs a week. They had us working ot for 90% of this yr. We'll keep working ot into next yr. They had us working ot thru Mar this yr. Crazy. You ain't got no life for yourself.

Homeschooling a child in K-2 takes about 1 hour a day to cover everything covered in regular school and more. Grades 4-6 take about 2 hours a day, and we were doing double math and double language lessons, science, music, history, everything.

We're into 8th grade now with a lot of high school material, so it's maybe 3-4 hours depending on the complexity of the chemistry and physics experiments and the amount of French drilling we choose.

Ask on any homeschool forum, and they will give about the same number of hours. At first I thought I was doing it wrong because we were done in a couple hours every day, but other parents assured me that is truly all it takes to cover more material than regular school.

I get where she is coming from with both parents working. I used to do that to, but now I work at home; some days it is a real challenge.

I'm not handing my kid over for 12 hours when I know we only need 2-4 hours to do the work.

Yes there are many parents that work 8 hour work days. Actually in most office work settings that is standard. Nevermind hospital settings, normally 10-12 hours. I haven't worked under an 8 hour shift since college..where I earned a degree so I could work as a technologist and make a living wage to afford a modest life for my family, including two kids. Oddly, I always thought I was on the right track, but here is what you get from people: I'm a bad parent for working until 5pm, I "expect" people to watch my kids for free(I dont, I actually pay for an afterschool program), my kids must be neglected..Let me tell you..The mom in town with belly hanging out a too short shirt, ciggy in hand, dirty kids half dressed, decapitated housing, but gets to "stay home" with her kid is cornering the market on neglect..not me. I don't know where most of you live, but all of our schools have aftercare, because most of us work salaried, normal jobs. They cost money. 250-500 a month, per child. Normally schmucks work these programs, lucky us. If she wanted to help, like another mentioned, she should have suggested shortening the work day or funding these programs so the are free. You know some of those poor kids whose parents are "lucky" enough not to work may benefit from the extra time away? Still I think it should be a choice and not forced. To sum it up, the working parent argument is always funny to me..Really you think in reality most kids in this day and age are better off going home? Pft..

Same is true with many jobs. I can get a weeks worth of work done in maybe 4 or 5 hours and still outpace all my co-workers.

I bet it already sucks for the kids. I know we have nothing but schools of indoctrination because I am very aware that I was Indoctrinated. See how the school systems are pushing the gay agenda upon young children. Much of it is mind control and no doubt there is an agenda to dumb the generations down. Someone has control over the indoctrination and it needs to be stopped. More hours is not the answer.

We seriously need big changes that support the interests of the kids.

It's not about working parents, it's about The State Raising Your Children to be Good Communists.

Unless the child has a job, with a written excuse, I have been saying this for a long time...we are preparing our kids for the workforce, but who besides teachers work 7 hour days and get over three months vacation? The French don't count...

Oh, and no more stupid fucking homework! I never took work home with me! What are we teaching our kids?

I homeschooled my kids. We covered MUCH more material than the schools ever did.

I took us 3 hours a day, max. And on some days we just skipped and did field trips.

This is just babysitting.

Teachers want more money, well they have a part time job...maybe by working all year long and working all day like most Americans, they might get a raise...

The class can only move as fast as the dumbest student...I went to a private schools, because the slow students go to public schools...

Here's the only thing these sh-theads understand:

Until the people learn that, they should be ready to take it up the butt whenever they're told to bend over.

Teachers vote, students don't...I think most parents would go along...

Instead of trying to figure out how to increase AMERICANS wages which might enable MOM to stay home and take care of her OWN KIDS, which is what most people, including the KIDS, really want....they create a system that raises peoples kids FOR THEM and makes them little Statists right from toddlerhood. Day Care on up. The more time your child spends away from your family esp before age 7, the weaker your child's grasp of family and sense of authority for elders will be. Children HAVE to relate to individuals FIRST before they can relate to groups of people.

The Federal government should NOT be involved in the field of education in ANY WAY. There should be NO Department of Education and NO STUDENT LOANS. All Federal projects relating to Education should be ELIMINATED.

So in order to get this money, these low income (by her own words) schools, these schools (with no money) need to match the money they get from the gov’t. So instead of spending it on supplies or salaries, these poor schools need to spend their money to get daycare...which has nothing to do with the process of TEACHING... which is what schools are supposed to do. What a well-thought out bill!

And she thinks this makes sense???

This is EXACTLY what school is about. It's probably what school has ALWAYS been about, at least from the Federal standpoints. School should be run locally ONLY according to local standards.

I don't agree with that, and it's not what I've seen with my friends with kids. They DO want to stay home with their minor children but many feel that they can't AFFORD too because our real inflation since the 70s is so MASSIVE. If real wages were to increase so women could stay home, at least during most of the day, with their minor children, I DO believe most would want to do so. And if they don't, they're unfit mothers.

One of the saddest things in life is to see young mothers leaving their BABIES and TODDLERS in day care, which is ALWAYS babysitting and indoctrination, so they can work at some job that sucks because they think they need the income. It's almost always financially based. Unfortunately now many young women have been brainwashed into thinking they CAN'T just stay home with their small kids, they have to be working at some dead end job, which most jobs are, realistically, instead of the most important thing a person can do - raising another human being. Daycare and nursery school and kindergarten are perversions. Kids need to stay home with their families until they're at least 6 or 7.

If you are middle-class, you make enough money...you simply lack budgeting, discipline, investing skills, and probably intelligence...
