I've read every post and am surprised none mentioned are combat
injuries/deaths. I've seen more deaths/injuries that I even care
to mentioned in my nearly 20 years of service. I was a pilot
in the army and flew the MH-6J for the bulk of my career. That
all ended when I was shot down in Afghanistan, surviving the
crash with few injuries including the neck and back and then
taking 2 bullets in our escape from the crash site before extraction.
Can't go into details as too many classified missions. The worst
experience, by far, would have to be in the Mog back in '93.
Lost many good friends there in the 75th and 160th. Lost many
others over the years in various missions. To this day, still
friends with some and talk with them regularly.

When I was a kid in the early 1960s, there wasn't urgent care, the hospital was miles away and you called the doctor whose office was in his house. Ambulances were station wagons with lights. There were no helicopters.

8 years old, running through field, pile of metal, tripped and fell, through the hand. In the palm, out the top. Back in the 1960s, it took a minute to get to the doctor. Weird thing is didn't hurt.

Another time I was entertaining my little brother by sliding on the hallway floor up to his crib. There was a nail sticking up about a half inch on the floor and my left palm went right over it, taking it down to the bone. That was bad.

My mother was screwing around in the barn in the hay loft and fell off the ladder and landed on one of the gallon glass jugs we used for "home made adult beverages" which cut tendons, sliced an artery. Priest came to school to get me, drove me home. Fire trucks, blood everywhere. Mom was white as a sheet, in and out, didn't recognize me at first. Everyone in town talked about that one for a long time. Busting yourself up on a moonshine bottle without being drunk was, apparently, hysterical. She was on crutches for a long time.

When I was 10, I ran through a plate glass window on accident at a birthday party.

My father was a physician and surgeon and he came to the e.r. and stitched me back up and sent me back to the birthday party so the kid's wouldn't think I was dead.

I was in a wheelchair all summer.

In a Mountan bike race, I crashed on a hyperextended elbow and shortened my arm by about 4 inches and made it that much bigger at the joint. Tore all of the soft tissue and had to push my bike an hour to the trailhead.

then had to get to the e.r. and blacked out several times.

that is enough for me.

Jesus came over to our house, across the street from his, and his neck was cut. His wife did it. Blood spurting from his carotid, all over the couch, we tried to help him. Never seen so much blood. And when that much blood pools it coagulates. If you cut someone's throat they don't die in a few seconds like on tv, it takes minutes. Meanwhile their blood is squirting all over the place even if you put many towels on their neck and hold it tight. Even with 3 people and 2 who were trained medics, the blood just doesn't stop gushing.

I had a friend that was stabbed in the leg, right behind his knee, the wound ripped downward. The guy who stabbed him was lying on the floor when he stabbed him.

My friend bled 3-4 units by the time ambulance got there.

He would have bled out if it were not for me tying an extension cord around his thigh.

I have never seen that much blood on a floor, or ever before. The smell was definitely something new.

It was quite the experience.

He lives today due to me.

In 1983 I saw an Asian woman with long hair performing martial arts moves with a sword. This was in a mostly Puerto Rican neighborhood in the Lower East Side of Manhattan where lots of people hung out on the streets. She became very popular in the neighborhood apparently, as I remember encountering crowds of people, mostly men gathered around her in circles on sidewalks and in the streets.

She was entertaining to watch, but she seemed more fervent each time I came across one of her impromtu street performances. She seemed eirie-- almost possessed, and I never got near her. I saw glimpses of her between onlookers as I walked by.

One day I was watching her performance from the fire escape outside my 6th floor apartment. She was in the street, spinning around with her sword. She would suddenly stop and make mock stabbing thrusts with her sword. As usual, a crowd of men gathered in a circle around her.

Suddenly she thrust her sword deeply into the chest of a man in the crowd. He put his hands to his chest, then fell down. A river of blood streamed from his body and ran far down the street gutter. The crowd mostly dispersed, but the woman with the sword stayed. A ambulance and a police car arrived. The woman did not resist as the police arrested her. A police officer put her bloody sword into a plastic bag.

The ambulance workers loaded the man in the ambulance, but remained parked. The ambulance was not driven away for at least 30 minutes, and when it drove away it did so slowly with no lights flashing.

I once saw a brutal fight where a guy threw a bottle at another man and it hit his bicep and cut a huge chunk out of it and hit his artery in the arm and blood was spraying everywhere.

My own injury would be a compound fracture on my big toe where the bottom of the toenail is. The bone cake through there. It was pretty painful.

I’ve seen a few other things.

I once was shot at in Rockford IL by some gangbangers, luckily I ran in a zig zag motion and they missed.

Never seen someone die in person but have seen the aftermath.

What’s your gory story?

Idk what it is but have seen and responded to a lot accidents but haven't been a 1st responder in 20+ years.

1 dude burning alive and then died in front of me, in a suv. (Was suicide. We tried to get to him but the asshole had gas cans all through out a big truck & it kept exploding. Damn near took me and another dude out.)

Car accidents. The direct aftermath of suicide by cop. Came up on a dude who just cut his hand off frigging with his lawnmower.

I'm totally grossed out after reading all this crap, lol.

You know what a carpet knife is? Looks like a parrot's beak. I was stupidly using one to cut through the cable ties holding my kid's bike together in it's packaging. It eventually cut, but as I was using my full body weight to pull/cut upwards, it kind of jerked, and proceeded to slice my arm up about an inch deep and about 8 inches long.

My arm opened up like you open a cut mango. Lot's of blood. Quite a few hours of micro surgery on that one!

Also, was working really late in my workshop with a big disk sander. I was so wiped out, and the disk caught on my jumper. The more I pulled it away, the more it bit in, until it started sanding, then cutting into my gut.

I have many scars, with many stories behind each one....

You're joking, I guess. She may have directly pierced his heart with her sword, and she withdrew her sword after stabbing him with it so the hole was open. He lost so much blood so fast, that he likely died before the ambulance arrived. Don't know why they remained parked so long. Later wondered if they were removing his organs in the ambulance.

Dislocated right leg from a car accident where I wound up under an 18 wheeler... should’ve been history, but just had a leg turned backwards with my foot facing behind me & a lot of lacerations.

Got a jaws of life extraction & a free helicopter ride out of that one.

They would have to call it prior to removing organs, and they have to meet specific criteria to call it in an ambulance setting. I’ve heard of people who go to scenes and remove organs though. I don’t have a donor stamp on my identification because I don’t trust that someone won’t allow me to die when there was a chance they could save me. Sounds selfish huh? Well, if you’re a donor they might let you die to harvest your organs.
