Totally agree! Dion is a boring, over-rated Disney cruise boat singer and yes, Doris Day was absolutely great, read somewhere that, although she had this squeaky clean imagine she was actually quiet a freak :) But yeah, she was an amazing singer, got a bunch of records from her too.... Speaking of cruise boat singers :) "vivacious" Irish piano-bar singer Pamela Brody, also known as the hat-lady. She was playing in the Rose and Crown pub at Disney's Epcot in Orlando, Florida for more than 20 years, played in the Castle Harbour Hotel in their Isle O' Devils Pub in Bermuda where this album was recorded, on cruise-ships, in all kind of bars back home in Ireland and the States and ended up in the Grand Palm Hotel in Orlando where, as far as I know, she still resides and plays from time to time at 91 years of age.... I even rate her above Dion :) |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 76333462 Indonesia 11/17/2019 01:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | But seriously... I see incredible female singers all the time here in West-Java, often going to wayang (puppet) shows, amazing music, amazing singers (called sinden here), the singer dressed in blue is a friend of mine, Masyuning.... They usually start at around 8 or 9 at night and go, without pause, till around 4 in the AM..... And then you've got the jaipong shows, where things can get really wild, specially far away in the villages: And if you want it wilder than that, there's pergosi odong odong music: But hey, I can understand if all this stuff is too weird for most of you here :) Gotta post this, one of my favorite singers from the city of Cirebon, Itih S. , tayuban music, a kind of trance music, far out man.... |

Quoting: Mammy Yokum 70867193 Céline Dion? Hell no. People have got no more musical culture. I would name Edith Piaf for popular music. Then you can name Maria Callas and other classical vocalists. This. |

Quoting: kstacy Jennifer Rush has more emotion. Celine Dion sounds like she copied Rush's version. Laura Branigan often gets overlooked, but she did her version as well before Celine. As for best vocal? Celine ain't got nothing on Karen Carpenter |
Rosicrucian1 User ID: 70585940 Canada 11/17/2019 11:52 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | many greats listed on this thread.. but the person I find most interesting these days is Nina Hagen. I first heard her in about 1979 and hated her and passed immediately onward.. she was the queen of punk then. I learned she was trained as operatic singer and she can do it although she lacks the control of a professional. great voice and she can do jazz and blues standards as well. many of these ladies are great singers but they know their range and it is often narrow eg. registers and even singing styles. Nina Hagen is amazing, she grew up in East Germany when it was still communist, her step-father was the great Wolf Biermann, he got out, she wanted to get the hell out too, but they wouldn't let her go, so she started kickin' up a storm, told authorities that if they didn't let her go she was gonna raise hell a thousand times harder than her step-father did, and she did, and they let her go, she was stronger and crazier then the East German communist regime :) ... Incredibly difficult person to get along with, her band didn't want to record with her any more, so they recorded her (I think) second album in Germany and she did the vocals in the US. She's still around, as crazy as ever :) And speaking of crazy: you know your singers for sure.. Patsy.. what can I say? Eartha yes she had the voice of the earth. I still think that Nina can be shown to have sung professionally in more different styles than any other lady mentioned in this thread... and yes she is crazy.. not my kind of crazy either. |
