I dont believe in reincarnation in the traditional sense, but I do believe it's possible that your 'sense of self' will become alive again somewhere in the universe or time.

My best hope would be that the universe could be closed, curved and recycling itself infinitely. Then the quarks that make up our consciousness would eventually be used in new beings, thus making us immortal, experiencing every possible lifeform there can be. I don't think that's very likely either, though. It's probably infinite or will go through a kind of heat death in the end, eventually ceasing to exist altogether.

I do, for various reasons I think our essence reincarnates but the personality and body end up being different. So we do experience from different points of view. Perhaps the lack of memory about this is the real blessing though. How else could someone like Dick Cheney live with themselves they next lifetime as an innocent child?

2 things I'll throw out there -

1. I'm alive now that creates mathematical odds since I have lived once odds are there that I may live again!

2. I have some very limited memory of 2 past lives.

Isn’t you being replaced by someone else in reincarnation the same thing as you being erased? I’d much rather continue living as myself in the afterlife, which is what I understand really happens.

A soul has an embryo. ;-)
