Weird. I wonder if he could just pay them.

He did pay them. The dealer bought it as is with those features installed.

Since it's navigated by satellite, it stands to reason it would be a subscription type application. When you sell your house, the cable tv and internet don't come with it...

if it really is navigated by gps that is a horryfing situation bound to cause a crash. there IS NO WAY it is navigated by GPS as gps maps can be incredibly wrong and drive you right off the road into water thinking there is a road there.

brief you are retarded...all self driving cars use visual sensors with AI tech for live feedback driving NOT A GPS SYSTEM YOU BIG FAT OL RETARD RACIST SOB

GPS has been directing more and more traffic down the dirt road near my house. It's pretty darn bad when it rains and/or storms. When it is dry it is not nearly as bad. GPS has yet to figure out or be told that it is a dirt road, not fit to drive most modern vehicles down it. This is by design. Our neighborhood has been continually voting to keep half of our road a dirt road for years now. All because we do not want people zooming down the road at 50+ mph.

Good argument, if it were a monthly or yearly payment like cable, internet or sattelite radio on a car.

This feature is a one-time payment on a car then activated for 'life'. It should be as such.

I had a car dealership try this crap with me (I won't mention the brand but not a US make) with a used car - 3 years old, just off lease. He put down the price. Then added $650 for the custom DVD system the previous owner left in there, then added another $400 for the tow package the previous had installed.
I looked him in the eye, turned to my wife and said 'come one hone, we are leaving.' - he tried following me out the door wondering what he did. SMH. Really?

Dang! So he tried to give you a figurative dry fisting right then and there, AC? What nerve. I am glad you and your wife abandoned him to his devices. What you said about this can being a monthly or annual payment scheme, AC, is valid as well.

What gets me is so many businesses it seems these days do not bother to tell you about ongoing financial issue or issues. They give you a generic financial error message. Good luck figuring out their ambiguous crap entirely on your own. If I was given such a message about, "This feature is disabled because *insert valid financial reason or reasons here* please go to our main branch to sort this out at your earliest convenience.".

Sure, I would still be angry, but at least I would have an idea of what to do next instead of having no choice but to spit and sputter in place in a rapidly intensifying and deepening anger that turns into blind rage. If Telsa at least would do this this auto-pilot remote disabling issue would be largely a non-issue. A mighty annoying issue, but largely a non-issue nonetheless.

Tesla remotely disables Autopilot on used Model S after it was sold
Tesla says the owner can’t use features it says ‘they did not pay for’

Tesla has remotely disabled driver assistance features on a used Model S after it was sold to a customer, Jalopnik reports. The company now claims that the owner of the car, who purchased it from a third-party dealer — a dealer who bought it at an auction held by Tesla itself — “did not pay” for the features and therefore is not eligible to use them.

The features were enabled when the dealer bought the car, and they were advertised as part of the package when the car was sold to its owner. It’s a peculiar situation that raises hard questions about the nature of over-the-air software updates as they relate to vehicles.

Cars sold with hardware-based upgrades, such as four-wheel drive versus all-wheel drive, or advanced adaptive cruise control, do not lose those features when they are resold on the used car market. But because Tesla can update its vehicles remotely, the Model S and other Tesla vehicles can apparently lose key features. Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The owner in question, who Jalopnik refers to as Alec, purchased the car last December. The dealer bought the car a month earlier from a Tesla auction, with both “Enhanced Autopilot” and “Full Self Driving Mode” features intact, according to Jalopnik, which reviewed documents related to the car’s ownership and sale.

The dealer then listed the Model S, advertising both features. However, unbeknownst to the dealer, Tesla had independently conducted a software “audit” of the car after selling it, and disabled those features in a December update. The end result: when Alec picked up the car on December 20th, he did not have access to all its advertised features.

After contacting Tesla customer support, Alec was given the bad news:

That's too bad, AC. Tesla will remotely disable your wife's Tesla's auto-pilot feature when she is in heavy traffic. Heavy traffic that will have one or more crazed drivers suffering from road road. She will not know auto-pilot has been remotely disengaged till it is much too late. Have fun with this bit of knowledge, AC!

bottom line is : don't buy a tesla. what you drive away with may not be what you get to keep.

avoid shitty deals that can be altered by remote.

Do you not realize, AC, that Tesla is setting an incredibly dangerous precedent? How would you like to buy a new vehicle with auto-piloting features engaged? Especially since the corporate AIs will forcibly do auto-piloting on us all. How would you like for auto-pilot to be remotely disengaged while you're out riding around in heavy traffic? You do not know auto-pilot has been disengaged and get into a deadly wreck that winds up killing you at least. That is your, mine, and everyone else's eventual future for the most part if Tesla gets away with their BS.
