'Dominoes falling' in global shipping as coronavirus continues to grip China's economy | |

Quoting: Half Past Midnight That's good. Process the food HERE withOUT cancer causing chemicals. More American jobs, healthier food. Good point. Hopefully this'll lead to a global reset when it comes to imports and relying on other countries so much. I Believe Jesus is Smiling |

Quoting: Half Past Midnight That's good. Process the food HERE withOUT cancer causing chemicals. More American jobs, healthier food. There's ALOT of needless hysteria concerning food imported from China into U.S. markets. Take a good look at your pantry shelves and check the labels for yourself. How many say "Product of China?" If yours are anything like my own you'll find virtually NONE, because most of the stuff we eat daily has a shorter shelf-life that requires domestic production. The fact is that most Chinese products in American homes are DURABLE goods and not foodstuffs. Still, in an ever-shrinking world there are exceptions. As a long-term prepper I long-ago learned to stop and READ those labels on the food I eat [and not just the nutrional charts], and since many things come from my local Dollar General or $Tree stores and I'm always surprised at how global a marketplace they represent. For example: Strawberry Preserves from Egypt or Pancake Syrup from Peru! But BOTH of these are also made here in the U.S. - I'm just too cheap to pay those higher prices. That'll either change or I'll learn to do without. And even major brands are not immune; read the back of your container of Orange Juice. Even Tropicana and Minute Maid sources their juices from Mexico, Ecuador, Costa Rica or Brazil [Duh, that's where most Oranges grow]- so I got used to substituting "Bright-N-Early" which is a fair clone, and in a pinch I can even learn to love Orange Kool-Aid. BTW: since those juice concentrates travel in sea train tanks, expect Orange Juice to become VERY EXPENSIVE if South American seaports shut down!! My point in all of this is to READ THE LABELS and whenever possible start to eliminate anything on your shelves that comes form a foreign nation. You may find it's easier than you think and not as big abdeal as imagined. nope in nz , people would think twice about buying overseas foods if the product said a specific country of origin, here they say made from, "local and imported ingredients". sneaky huh? |

User ID: 8080014 United States 02/24/2020 11:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ... Quoting: GSB/LTD Thanks for once again proving the ignorance of American consumers. Many corporations are self-regulating and don't need federal mandates to comply with global standards. You may wish to actually READ THE LABELS on that tray of Tyson Chicken you buy, because they clearly read that no antibiotics or growth hormones are used and Tyson is the world's SECOND LARGEST processor of Chicken, Beef and Pork. And, they are the largest exporter of US Beef. Know what that means? As their exports drop off, domestic Beef prices [actually all three of the meats above] should drop and a T-Bone steak will cost what it did When Andy was boning Helen Crump in Mayberry. What tripped your trigger? I never mentioned a particular company. But since you bring it up, NO, I don't want to read a Tyson label. Knowing that it was raised in a factory farm concentrated animal operation that had numerous problems with abusive animal care workers is enough for me. Now, back to what I said, here are links: Banned in 160 Nations, Why is Ractopamine in U.S. Pork? [link to www.livescience.com (secure)] Here's Why Most Most of the Meat Americans Eat Is Banned in Other Industrialized Countries [link to www.ecowatch.com (secure)] Enjoy your dinner. You didn't need to mention a specific company because you made a blanket industry-wide statement; and when I proved that the world's second largest processor of Chicken, Beef and Pork does not produce meats that are "hormone and antibiotic laced nasties" you immediately deflected and stated that you'd never buy products from a company that uses long-established [and federally-regulated] breeding/processing standards. And then to declare "that's enough for me" only further indicates not only your true agenda, but just how closed your mind really is. NOW: let's focus on that evil Ractopamine which outrages you so much. The entire issue was promulgated by animal-rights activists back in 2014 including the American Humane Association and the Animal Legal Defense Fund who actually filed their lawsuits claiming it caused the harvested animals "physiological and psychological stress". It's important to note there is no data suggesting such use is harmful to consuming humans. Even so, the USDA moved to satisfy their insane objections. BTW: the text in your first link was WRITTEN by the President of the AHA, so that pretty well clarifes that source. Your second link was penned by the Organic Consumers Association so they too -just like yourself- have a specific agenda to hustle. And THAT'S that kind of crap that always trips my "trigger." It wasn't enough that hang-wringing nutjobs killed an established American institution like the Ringling Brothers Circus, now you want to fuck with my Pork Chops and meddle with my table? I'll just bet you also think that a big fat Sow makes an ideal support animal and would eagerly file a lawsuit if you couldn't waddle her onboard an aircraft. Comeon... confess it! Here's a radical idea: go eat a big slab of Tofu and [hopefully] shut up while doing it. As for dinner? I just cooked up a batch of hot Tyson wings and they were delicious. Enjoy your Soylent and Almost-Burgers! You proved? The only thing you've proven is your moral character. You said, "I proved that the world's second largest processor of Chicken, Beef and Pork does not produce meats that are "hormone and antibiotic laced nasties". Direct from Tyson website: "We buy livestock for our beef and pork plants from independent farmers and ranchers and expect them to raise their animals responsibly. In accordance with federal law, we prohibit the use of added hormones in hog production. "However, the federal government has recognized the role small amounts of hormones can have in making beef production more efficient, helping to keep beef affordable. Cattle farmers use small amounts of hormones to increase the rate of lean weight gain in animals, contributing to a sustainable food supply." So, did you lie, not know, or will you "deflect" by saying Tyson didn't do it, the farmers did? Nevermind. I'm not vegan or an animal rights "activist" unless you consider my refusal to buy meat that has been inhumanely raised "activism." I don't want to deprive you of your circus, your pork chops, or your dinner. Now go eat your chicken wings and calm down before you stroke out. My "moral character" is not in question here but your rationale certainly is. Above, you seemed to miss that I stated Tyson does not PRODUCE those 'laced nasties'; that is absolutely true and even your quotes from their website substantiates this. And that's not a lie, ignorance or a deflection, but a fact. Actually -since you apparently only see what you want to see- reading those package labels wouldn't help you much, anyway. As for your own high "moral" standards, unless you're monitoring maturing pens or standing in the slaughtering houses personally witnessing your next T-Bone on the hoof, you have NO IDEA how much that animal suffered from birth to death. Here's a nother reality-check: just like their human counterparts, Animal Psychologists are a scam and just like those who killed the circus, throw blood on fur-wearers or protest steakhouses you are being colossally presumptive and are in the exact same league as those activists you deny. I DID enjoy those wings, and will continue to do so as I please. I hope you do the same with your TVP [which I also stock in my pantry]. BTW: I noticed that you did NOT revisit your original harangue against Ractopamine - where you stupidly attempted to connect economic collapse with the use of a drug that is claimed to be harmful to the "phsyiological and psychological" stress levels of harvested animals... NONE of which has ever been proven, even in a courtroom. That ALONE sums up your rationale -and agenda- quite nicely. You may not wish to deprive me of my "circus, pork chops or dinner" but you certainly want to control a blatantly false narrative. So, don't even think about posting an endless string of PETA videos showing animal-cruelty, because they too won't be germain to the topic of this thread.
