I'm in a rural area and today it was reported that hospitals in rural areas are buying masks at hardware stores because regular inventories are depleted. Glad there are plans to step up production quickly because those in first response/medical need them. At least it's being discussed and potentially addressed because a week ago it was not. Hoping it actually happens. ~~*NOT* a very nice kitty!~~ "Plan for the worst, hope for the best, and don't live in fear." |

The very first things you should get are gloves and any kind of wash that will kill the fucking thing, then worry about masks. Start NOW practicing not touching public surfaces and then yourself/especially face. Big picture peeps, see the big picture, Which at the moment seems grim, a virus with 4 hiv markers of fucking course once you get it, it stays.... MMS is our last resort treatment. |

N95, N99, and N100 masks all only filter particles .3 Microns and larger. None of these masks is likely to stop inhalation of the Novel Coronavirus, although it may make you feel better about it. To be fully safe, one would need to use a full face tank respirator with pure oxygen. |

I guess smoke and mirrors Its not feasible to have all healthcare workers wear what is effectively SCUBA gear all day long while treating patients. Also consider, an oxygen tank used in such a case only lasts 15-20 minutes. N95 masks are the cheapest available that filters to .3 micron, which is about as small as you can practically get with a plain filter and still be able to breathe through it. I suppose, its better than nothing. FWIW - pretty much every healthcare worker in Wuhan was already wearing such masks in response to the outbreak and all are now either dead or in quarantine with the infection. |

We were looking for other family members who did not listen to us in the beginning and the sales reps said they will not be getting anymore for a real long time. |

And at least the ones with the cool flow help when you have to wear them for the course of entire shifts. They get very hot and uncomfortable. They are very claustrophobic. The full face masks are a living hell if you have to wear them more than an hour. ~~*NOT* a very nice kitty!~~ "Plan for the worst, hope for the best, and don't live in fear." |

It won't change the pore size of the filtration medium so I think it is unlikely to help. I only know about these masks because many years ago I had a job finishing furniture spraying lacquer in a spray booth. For this, I used a P100 respirator that sealed to my nose and mouth with silicon/rubber with 2 valves and filter canisters. Additionally, the canisters are only good for about 1 to 2 hours once exposed to air, even if unused and must be discarded. They are quite expensive. Such a mask is difficult to breathe through and I definitely would not want to be wearing one all day long. I only donned the masks when spraying, which was about 20-45 minutes at a time. |

User ID: 75733009 United States 02/29/2020 05:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think in an ideal world everyone would have them. But think about these two facts: 1. If you really need to go to the hospital due to an injury or something non-CV19 related would you like to have living medical staff to transport/care for you? 2. If your area is hard-hit by CV19 do you think it's sensible to be out and about wearing a mask? I recommend masks are given first to health personnel and responders. I also recommend that you prep in case you need to avoid public spaces for a while. This is something people should do anyway. I have always had at least 8 weeks worth of food, etc. around. Now I have more because I have been slowly adding since Feb. 1st. If it gets to a point that you need a mask, you need to ask yourself if you want to take that risk. I will take it because I signed up for it. Why would you? ~~*NOT* a very nice kitty!~~ "Plan for the worst, hope for the best, and don't live in fear." |

A mask won’t keep you from getting infection, only completely covering your body would do that....how is this not known? They want to believe in a placebo. Just be careful to shave your family before you send them out bedecked with masks like a friggin Christmas tree. Life's a journey--pack with care. |
