Don't open the door. Watch your perimeters. Prepare your family to be in a safe location in the home.

Never answer the door unless you're expecting someone, period.

If you open the door, they have the advantage and you've just compromised yourself and your domicile. If you don't open the door, they're forced to tip their hand and you can react with your plan. Or they just leave.



Make sure everyone in the domicile knows your plan for when someone comes knocking. Have someone else cover any weak spots in your other entry ways/portals while you cover the front door via a window or other advantageous outlook.

Being out in the open in someone's front stoop is a dangerous place to be, while being inside with the jump is a safe place to be, don't lose that upper hand to foolishness!
