I'm sorry you fell for the trap man, that sucks. But, for me $1200 covers rent, insurance, utility bills, phone, fuel, food, entertainment AND $400 into savings. I live in an RV and rent a lot, so that's $400/month all utilities included. Phone is $75 a month, that pays for both me and the wife to have unlimited talk, text, data AND hotspot. We both drive $1000 beaters that cost $400 every six months in insurance, which is paid in full to avoid extra charges. Food isn't a major burden if you shop smart and cook from scratch. I'm sorry you didn't listen to those preaching "Live below your means and prepare for when times are rough". |

It's LOANS they are getting, LOANS! The small businesses gets a grant IF they use the funds for payroll and rent. Otherwise, it's a LOAN for them too! Geez the stupid burns. |

Pelosi says Direct Payment Check is 600$ Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72615402 She was just interviewed on PBS saying the check for individuals is 600$ She's not telling all the truth. It's 1200 for singles, $2400 for married couples and $500 for each child based on your filing from 2018 FOR PEOPLE MAKING LESS THAN 75K or 150k for married. NOW, from 75k to 99k it is probably $600. After 99k for singles you get nothing. The only reason Pelosi is lying to everybody (or not telling the whole truth) is because she is going to come back and lie to the public that SHE GOT MORE MONEY FOR US PEONS. Yep, she is going to try to take credit for the $1200. |

If you need more, go apply for unemployement ins. |

Its 1/4th of what is needed! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77994583 People will have to cut cell phone bills, cable tv, internet, and car insurance and car payments in order to break even! On the nearest envelope, i multiplied 1200 x 300,000,000 and I got 360 Billion...to the people. They're going to spend 2 trillion and the Munchkin guy gets 500,000,000,000 (500 billion) to give to whoever he wants and he doesn't have to tell who he gave it to. So the people get 360 billion and big business get the other 2.14 trillion. Keep your bullets dry. I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you. Slake Blake |

If you have a cell and internet, WTF you need cable for? You already did a nice big shopping in advance because you are hopefully smart (smart enough to be on glp anyway). So cancel the car insurance. Browse old glp threads for many cable options. Just don't bump old threads. Just throw your vehicle away? Nah, just put fire/theft on it. Leave it in driveway. If SHTF and you need to drive it, no insurance is least of your worries at that point. Embrace the cognitive dissonance. |

Welllllllll, OP.......you have a choice to work or not to work. If you really really really need a telephone, cable TV, and other non essential expenses and expect the government to pay for it, then you are certainly in the wrong country. In America if you want something devise a way to get it. Think about the Pilgrims who walked off the Mayflower. They brought all they needed to survive. Pay for food and electric first. Next internet. Credit card payments can be deferred in some cases but have to call the credit card company monthly. Rent has been deferred. Mortgage payments can be deferred up to 3 months but have to call lender. If you're not going anywhere, fuel will be down. Insurance can be deferred if you call and ask for it. $1,200 per person who filed taxes last year and $500 per child. April 6th. The truth is incontrovertible. Looks like you were in a shitload of financial problems before Corona came along. Yep, you may need to get rid of your cell phone, car, cable TV, etc. As far as the bankruptcy, call the courts and ask them. Lean on family or close friends for help until this all clears up. Optimistically, we could see things start to get back to normal in another 3-4 weeks. But it could also take 2-3 months. There are other assistance plans (medicaid, SNAP, section 8, Obama phones (I think they're still a thing), and cable companies that offer service for low income customers for $10-$20 per month.
