Mainly, it's because church is more about fellowship and being around like-minded people. Most will probably say it's to "hear the Word" but the word is already written in a book and many churches have their sermons online (even before COVID-19).

There is no point in pointing any of that out. It will just turn into a "let's see who can post the longest list of Bible verses".

Churches use holy water. Every possible way in which you sit close to each other happens are Church. You dip your hands in the same holy water and share it. It is rather disgusting. I even took part in that as a kid, but it is bacteria/germ infected.

Use logic. Do Liquor stores carry more germs? Probably not. Nearly all ethanol products are anti-septic.
