Here’s the honest truth regarding pilots. Gate agents and whatnot, I’m unsure about.

Once a minority, black, Indian, woman, any minority, gets 3000 to 4000 flight hours, a major airline will hire them.

Just so you know, for every minority pilot who has flown 3500 flight hours, there are hundreds of whites male pilots who are highly trained, triple the flight time and experience waiting for a call.

Delta is going the route of Get Woke, Go Broke.

I picked up 1700 shares several months back @ $22.75, hoping for a nice post-COVID rebound. I sold them today @ $28.85. I can't be part of a company that's making such irrational decisions.

Actually, I am of the belief that many people complain whether it is warranted or not. I don't usually bother to complain unless it is grievous, because overloading the system makes it easier for the businesses to ignore.

However, I make a note to send an e-mail after each flight where I felt the service was good. I include the flight and date and the first names of the employees. The experience has degraded so much that when I get treated like a normal human would be treated on a flight 20 years ago it's now considered "exceptional service". I try to reward those employees who do a good job because I believe in positive reinforcement. I also know that when customer service gets an unsolicited compliment, it's more meaningful.

As a frequent flyer, I also am given "reward certificates" to hand out to employees that are exceptional. This way the employee also sees the person immediately who is doing the reward.

I do believe Delta is the best run airline in the US at this time, so I hope they continue to do well, and I'm glad that the subject of this thread was proved to be incorrect. A lot of people don't like Ed Bastian, but he's definitely made the airline a palatable choice for customers who don't care for the "Spirit/Frontier Airlines treatment".

I believe a "normal" mix of races would take in to account the racial makeup of where the business is located, i.e. you don't need to "bus" employees in if the business is located where the mix is different.

Given that Delta has a HUGE operation in Atlanta and Detroit... I would expect there to be more employees in those areas that are of the black and brown persuasion. This would skew the overall numbers. So your the "24% of the population" is an average across the country (I presume, it's not noted), but not really applicable to those two hubs. Those two hubs probably have a higher ratio, and also make up a large proportion of Delta's employees.

In my CDP, I would not expect there to be 24% of those types of employees in the bulk of the businesses. Our mix has only 1-2% black, centered mostly in a relatively small area in a CDP that is rather large. In fact, in my town, I would be shocked to even see a black person employed in one of the shops. I wouldn't have any issue with it, but statistically it's pretty unlikely because he or she would have to travel 30 miles on winding roads.

Trying to enforce such "equality" is ridiculous, because defining the areas and limits to count the racial makeup basically amounts to gerrymandering. You can draw the lines however you want to support your narrative.

So without knowing a bunch of other data, it's hard to say whether black or brown people are doing well or not at Delta. Personally I just want people who can do their jobs properly, and I hope Delta will move forward on making that better.
