With the Republicans having lost the popular vote in 7 of the last 8 elections the ONLY thing allowing the Republicans to have any path to the White House these days is the Electoral College. Get rid of that you are basically getting rid of any hope that the Republicans will get back into the White House in the next 8 or so Presidential Elections, maybe 10.
