Ego is something that needs to be addressed in society. It creates self importance and forces someone to always play the part the Ego dictates.

Ego is important if your in life and death scenarios, playing the part is essential when things start to get bad.

In life our Ego helps us cope with what we dont understand or want to accept, another way to say it is that the Ego prevents us from accepting reality through an unfiltered lens.

You're probably right. Since we collectively (love that word) adopted "FU, I got mine" as our national ethos, we tend to let infrastructure age and crumble until the point of complete collapse. So yes, somewhere there is a giant mainframe possibly running on magnetic tape that you helped code for which will keep on chugging along until it finally bites the dust and takes down the national air traffic control systems or something else incredibly vital.

Hm. But maybe it is your watch, when all this mess is over. Complete destruction - what we are heading for globally - will leave everyone and everything in tatters and traumatized. So where yo you come in, in the "rebuilding" scenario? As older people, many of us have experience under our belts, and have critically observed a steady degeneration of society and morals. Those who have lived in Communist countries, for example, and who now live in supposedly non-Communist countries, will see the signs of governmental over-control long before young people who have not travelled at all. Just a small example. So, when everyone is at the very depths of despair, where do we come in? Now is the time to contemplate our skills/expereince and imagine where they could be best used. Everyone will be needed.

Then they should start by listening instead of the "whatever old man" attitude. I'm inclined to let them deal with their own mess unless they start to show some respect for their elders.
