Yeah so a bunch of that b.s. then finally like 20000 miles later I'll be crossing the plains... Then once I hit chicago it's a little layover then onwards to finish the trip. A bus and 3 trains and like 12 states pretty sure. |

I have some cousins in Redding -- they're white trash, but cool people. Cool voyage you're going on! Right on hey thank you very much... It's. A nice area if you have the right setup... Most of Humboldt is gorgeous just not downtown eureka |

I did have the forethought to purchase a small bottle of 13 yr old scotch, and tho I can't open it on the train, I plan to celebrate upon arrival in boston :) |

Sure did beat a covered wagon. I’d recommend you try and get a roomette on one of the trains. Try a $20 tip at check in and ask. If there’s space they might upgrade you. Looking forward to traveling along with you on the thread. Thanks! The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed. -Albert Einstein |

I just had a shorter trip on Amtrak in December - L.A. to Phoenix. It was nice, but I did upgrade to a "roomette" where I could get a few hours of sleep. The trip was fairly smooth, except when you pass a huge cow pasture. Ugh! You don't even have to look out the window to know when you're passing one of those. Damn! It wreaks badly!! And yes, they do serve beer, and wine too. I didn't buy any (because I was picking up a car in Phoenix the next morning) so I can't really tell you the prices. I'm sure it's fairly steep. You can bring/drink your own alcohol if you have a sleeper cabin or roomette, but not in coach. You could probably sneak in some mini-bottles or a small bottle of something and go to the bathroom to pour it in a cup. Keep a cup with a screw-on lid in your bag and take your bag with you to the bathroom. Just don't let them see those bottles. Don't toss them in the bathroom trash either. Get rid of them at the next stop where you might have time for a smoke or something. Oh, and make sure you have plenty to read, or games, or something. Amtrak doesn't have wifi on all trains. Usually the longer routes don't have it. You will be using your own data if you rely on the internet for reading. Think about bumping your data package now if you need it. Safe travels! |

Thank you for the information, I've never actually bribed anyone before, but always wanted to try! What's the harm, you just end up looking like a slick baller either way. Nice one dude... Thank you for that. |

Also in coach, don't think I could do it cross country; that was almost too long. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76376146 No turning back now! Yeah moved out here to learn to grow weed from the professionals but .. eh, combination of me just being a no productive autist, then corona hit... New world were living in.. thank you friend! |

Little joke for passing dairy farms. Back in MA we say "SMELL THAT DAIRY AIR?!" /derriere... It's a double entendre.... Hey thanks for the reply and for the travel update... Helps to know what to expect. I'm in the big boy league now.... Riding coach all the way hahahahhaa |
