If there was ANYONE running the US forces and evac effort with half a brain they'd be preparing all 5800 troops, 12500 remaining Americans, the terps and their families for a walk under fire to bagram (40 miles away) right now.

By the time they got there in about 2 days the northern alliance would hold enough of bagram for them to start landing planes 4-5 at a Time and loading people while air cover hammers anyone who tries to get close.
