Vaccination status and being disowned by your own family.
POLL: How are you holding up?
 Good - I have support.
Fair - I know what I am doing, but feel alone.
Poor - I have no idea what I am doing.
Fine - I already got vaccinated.

A forced vaccine is my line in the sand. In no way should someone's career be held hostage. I struggle to recognize my country.

I am going to lose my career of 15+ years. I have coworkers on both sides of the fence. Some took it early on for hero status. I thank God they had that choice and it was not forced.

My parents and siblings think we are nuts, sacrificing careers over shots. Most of them took the shots early on, prior to mandates. I am the highest educated member of my family with the highest paying job. My wife is one of the most senior ICU nurses at the hospital. We may sink ourselves financially...

As I said in line 1, this is a line in the sand. It will not be crossed. Thank you - to anyone else going through this battle for freedom of choice.

How many of you are going through something similar? How are you coping? Is your family supporting your freedom of choice?

If you need support, just ask. I will happily thank you for taking a stand or share some of my fear about walking blindly into the unknown during these upcoming months.

If you got vaxxed early on for hero status - thank you! I am glad you had a choice. Hopefully you support everyone else to have that same choice.

My entire family is vaxxed (except for a young grandchild who is waiting).

I keep my mouth shut, but the tension is always there.
and now, even my daughter seems to shy away from me. It is obvious that I am the butt of jokes even if it is being done in playful ways. In this case, the playful forms still include disdain for the "conspiracy theorist" in the undercurrent.

Nothing really bad--they always say, "love ya," but it is hurtful and I feel very alone.

My girl and I are unvaxxed but both our families are full vaxxed with 2 shots each. Some are going to struggle with the third one, but not all of them.

My family supports us and her family tries to force us into the vaccine.

So it's kinda in between. But we know what we are doing and we feel good about it.

Why is this a unity thing?

Do we share our pap smears and proctology exams?
Do we share all our prescription side effects with the fam?

My family think I'm over skeptical about things in general, however I'm actually very impulsive with things - on a whim or via a gut feeling.
I know lots of people, especially through work, but I can count on one hand the amount that are unvaxxed.
I still struggle to believe some of these highly educated people accept everything that is fed to them without questioning anything at any point, especially considering the series of calamities the UK government have blundered through.
Generally I carry on as if I've been double jabbed and don't even mention it. My friends must be fucking thick or scared.
My wife is pissed I've refused the needle, I'm pissed she's took it.
This will continue to simmer until one point which I hope to god does not arrive (and a continued personal source of stress for me). My children are 7 and 4, if anyone thinks they are going to be vaccinated there is going to be a considerable stand off from which I cannot see a positive outcome. This is my only worry and its fucking hanging over me big time.

You're not alone. Stand firm and follow your heart. There are others out there, feeling the same way. I am really worried, because we have small children, and I have no idea what kind of jobs we'll find in the future, but at least I can live with myself.

It is tough - my mom called me crying, begging me to get the vax after a friend of the family recently died from Covid-19. She was on an ECMO machine for about 2 weeks - basically they pull your blood out, oxygenate it, and put it back into the body because your lungs are destroyed. At any rate, she died because she only went to the hospital when her o2 was already tanked to the 60's and she likely had brain damage before she ever got to the hospital. At that point, Remdesivir didn't do shit.

It is what it is man.

We have been cast as the insurrectionists/terrorists and they're going to come for us more and more as if that's exactly what we are whether we fight back or not.

I take solace in knowing that they chose to pick this fight, it didn't have to be this way.

In that respect, my conscience is clear.

Now I'm just waiting for everyone else they've cast as the bad guys to realize that it's either us or them.

Ultimately I believe people will stand up when they realize that they have no choice but to either stand and fight or lose everything (including their lives)

We all knew this was coming and now it's here.

It's almost a relief if you ask me.

I work for my small family business. My family might've been vaccinated if it wasn't for me being a conspiracy theorist. Good thing they trust me!

Yeah, right? Insane...

Why don't they screen people for rotaviruses, why don't they force-jab everyone with rotavirus vaccines? This shit can be pretty nasty. Why don't we protect people with intestinal diseases? They are particularly susceptible to this shit, why don't we protect them? Why shouldnt everybody share their "STD status? After all that's quite important, right? Why don't we mandate all night-club goers to wear STD-status armbands, or to have STD status apps?

Hey, thank you for your reply! It really gave me a feeling of hope.

I am sorry about your mom--they just don't understand and unless they are willing to listen to some of the now ostracized doctors/etc, they really don't know why you wouldn't get the shot. To them, it just seems so incredulous that anyone wouldn't save their own life just by taking a little shot. And they won't listen to any of the "crazies" out there who are just "creating havoc" with misinformation. It is so sad.

It is and it isn't. I have concerns because I have little humans to raise and take care of. On one hand, they get to see how much integrity their parents have. On the other hand... there is just so much uncertainty ahead.

Hopefully a window opens when the doors close...

And YES STD is the perfect example!!!

I still speak to my closest family members, but the vax issue has caused a significant dent in our relationship as they all took it early on and I will resist it until the end.

I did all I could do bring them to God and to reject the vax, but they proved impossible to get thru to.

I feel like Heisenberg - I am the one who knocks.

"I" am the one not vaccinated and
"I" am the one who does the disowning.

I do not need their support. However, having said that the idea that you, who have received the vaccine, need to somehow feel like you need to condescend to allow me to remain unvaxed . . . is not support.

As far as coping . . . I am not doing that. Coping is the process of overcoming problems and difficulties. I don't have those.

I have opportunities. It is a choice.

Fortunately, no one in my family has been vaxxed. Not my spouse, parents, in-laws, children, grandchildren or nieces and nephews.

We've actually been pretty fortunate throughout the entire covid thing. We go out to dinner and do our weekly grocery shopping every Friday. We couldn't go inside and eat at a restaurant for about a month and that's the only inconvenience we experienced, and that was just a minor inconvenience. My heart goes out to all of you who have suffered so much because of this. hf

My wife and kids are vaccinated, but don’t care that I’m not. I don’t think my brothers wife will let me in their house. She’s convinced that if your not vaccinated, you’re a threat to the vaccinated. She’s a nurse and thinks she knows everything.

If your family disowns you over something like this, they weren't family to begin with.

I have dopes in my fam, lots of them, who got vaxxed. They knew better than to troll me or give me shit for not doing it.

Literally nothing changed hanging out with them.

Because good families don't fret over nonsense.

There was a Superman comic where Clark's father died in a field of a heart attack, and Superman laments at his Dad's grave, "Despite all my powers, I couldn't save him."

Which is exactly how i feel about my family who all got jabbed. All the knowledge I have searched and learned over the last 15 years, and none of it was persuasive or informative enough to convince anyone i love.

Things are pretty civil between us now, but i fear the future that as the rhetoric against the unjabbed grows, that they may turn on me... if they don't die first.
