Ran a spanning tree for the new BA.2 variant. The genetic distance between BA.1 and BA.2 is large - large enough that a BA-MRCA has to be inserted to explain their separation genetically.

The idea that Oct 2019 was the start of this virus, is now a walking dead theory.

... Omicron was engineered as a test release, flying under radar, so they would monitor how quickly it would spread and would tell them when to release BA.1 to hit in time to alter 2020 US elections.
