its pretty simple. Light is directional. You only see the light directed at you. If the event 200 million light years away light was directed in a different direction you will not see the event. You also lose time gaps in light over long distances.

I was just outside looking at the stars and one just starts moving then speeds up and then slows down and then does a little zig zag and keeps slowly trucking along. I’m like WTF??? It’s like looking at a bug moving across the sky. Seriously this was another weird night seeing.
