Yes, but whole satellites are a lot easier to track and avoid than the particles that result when one of them gets blown up. They dealt with this on a smaller scale in "Gravity." When nuts and bolts start flying around at mach 5, it gets a little dicey up there.

You bring up an interesting point and the reason I think the climate change push (which will eventually include this satellite battle and maybe even be blamed for radiated heat etc) is what will lead so many to opt in for one world government.

For 100 years industry, space race, nukes, energy etc has been more about national exceptionalism and pissing matches so naturally when the pendulum swings back it will be about unity and common goals...
