The oil companies are trying to recover the money they lost during Covid while using it as a political power piece to get oil friendly republicans back in office. Democrats are using it to start war with Russia to cover their tracks and blame everything on Russia for everything while pushing the fake climate agenda of control. WE ARE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE!

Darp. Oil needs to be turned into gas. It isn't magic. It takes time, money and our refining capabilities are limited.

A barrel of oil is 42 gallons, at 8$ a gallon that’s 336.

OP is such a retard that he thinks oil comes in 55 gallon drums.

Lying idiot.

Ban him.

Because of fracking and oil sands extraction technologies, the US alone has a KNOWN ~200 years of crude oil. Also the US has over 100,000 years of natural gas from current KNOWN sources.

These numbers include the current rate of population growth.

Leases are being stopped for the main reason to NOT discover any new oil or natural gas pockets which would add to the debate for no reason to not extract fossil fuels domestically.

So what is preventing the oil storage facilities from transporting the oil to the refineries...

Pipelines are closed down...

California will only allow newer trucks to transport oil...

We have less refineries, in the USA, than we had 20 years ago and we are not building new ones. Yet, demand keeps increasing...

The Biden Administration is causing this oil gas scam by preventing oil from reaching the refineries. They want oil and gas prices to go even higher to promote their green new deal...

Remember when the Trump Administration eased regulations and increased oil drilling. Prices here in Oklahoma went down to 99 cents a gallon...

Yes, oil and natural gas prices are Global. Europe is cutting Russian oil and gas to further increase the problem...

To increase production, transportation, and refining should be a very real goal to decrease oil prices and bring down inflation and a stagnating economy...

Have no idea where you got $440/ barrel from. A barrel of oil has 42 gallons in it (it is NOT the 55 gal barrel used in for other industries). Even if there were NO costs in moving, refining, packaging, or selling oil products $8 gal only works out to $336/barrel ... and fwiw as high as gas prices are here they are NOT even close to $8/gal.

If you take out our taxes (printed right on the pump in our state, with gas at about $5.10 per gallon the gasoline is only at about $3.70/gal ... but we all know the government LOVES it's taxes so that raises our price up about another $1.40/gal.

Bakan oil fwiw to move from the oil fields to the storage locations before further shipment to the refineries, costs about $12-$15/bbl to move (Warren Buffet says "THANK YOU JOE for cancelling the pipeline that would have competed with my railraod) .... I guess you think moving the oil is FREE!!

I guess you think running the oil refineries costs NOTHING. Moving the product from the refineries to the storage tanks via pipelines or other transport methods IS FREE.

I could go on and on wrt the supply chain costs but I think you get the drift.

Refiners ARE making good profits TODAY ... 3 years or so ago they were break to even LOSING money (reason Marathon the largest refiner in the US back then permanently SHUT DOWN several of their refineries).

NO new refineries have been built in the US since the 1970's so everytime one shuts down that is refinery capacity that will NEVER be replaced in the US. To build a new refinery today the permitting processes and court battles would make it a 15 year or longer endeavor and with the switch to electric being forced by the government NO private business is going to wade into that money losing morass.

If the price of gas really bothers you that much, though I hate to say it, buy an electric vehicle ... or at least a Hybrid. It will only drop marginally when it drops, it is NOT going back to $2/gal.

Thought I'd pass along the following boots on the ground information concerning US oil supply. I just finished speaking with a friend and neighbor of mine who is a tug boat captain who runs oil along the west coast. He works three weeks on and three weeks off and has been at sea for a many years. He is very highly experienced and his tug is cutting edge. (Don't want to give too much info about him).

This week, he was due to unload his oil in Long Beach but mid morning Tuesday, he was told to turn around and anchor in a big bay because there was no storage available to unload. He said tankers are stacked up with the same problem, the storage tanks are FULL of oil. I asked him how the supply levels were compared to 4-5 years ago and he said the same, full. He also said that they are pumping the hell out of oil in Alaska and there is a ton coming in from overseas.

My friend also stated emphatically that he is no communist but the profits being generated by these fuel prices is outrageous and in his opinion, the high prices are a scam. He is shipping the same amount of oil he has shipped for years! His evidence is that there is no oil shortage.

It IS a scam, because the USA has more oil than every other country.

However, the price of a barrel of oil (55 gallons), doesn't include costs for transportation and for refining that oil.

Just wanted to point that out.

Most definitely, it is a refinery shortage caused by various environmental groups and most notably the EPA. In fact there was a Wall Street Journal article on this from one of the heads of the oil companies. I think it was Chevron that stated we have not built a new oil refinery in the United States of America since the 1970s that’s almost 50 f***ing years!! That’s the problem!! The EPA is the problem. The tree-hugging environmental groups are the problem. Every single time we try to put in a new refinery, we get stopped by the EPA and the liberal ass courts. Do YOU want to fix the problem? Approach the problem from a position of strength and power.

I would agree to the actual oil supply and price gouging. However one must consider that at $8/ per gallon price includes state and federal taxes, refining, transport, storage, retail markups. etc. into that price.
So trying to make it reflect crude oil prices is both impossible and corrupts the truth of your main point.

A barrel of crude undergoes refinement which turns it into ~1200 gallons at the gas station pump. The contract for guaranteed delivery of a barrel of crude in July specifies a bidding price of $120ish. If you skip the contract, you may be able to purchase the barrel for more or less in July. In fact, the ability to trade oil futures creates additional liquidity.
