Anonymous Coward User ID: 78517965 Germany 06/23/2022 08:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes. I've flown my whole life. Throughout the 70s, 80s, 90s and saw its' decline over the years but especially in the 00s leading up to now. Quoting: ElleMira My husband and I flew to Denver in 2016 and that was when my husband said he had it, he was not flying anymore. I flew a few times since then - the last time in 2019 was when I decided that's it for me. It just got unbearably worse over the years. Now, as you mentioned with fuel costs, pilot shortages, cancellations, delays - it's turned into a hellish nightmare. Nope, I'm not ever steeping foot on a plane if I can help it. I'd rather take a bus, at least I'd have more legroom, can bring my own food and drink and wouldn't have to deal with gestapo flight attendants. It's amazing, our once wealthy and free nation, has turned into a shithole. I remember as a kid wondering what sorts of technological advancements would be made in the future that would improve us and our lives. Sure, we have the internet but most people don't utilize it for the vast resource of knowledge it contains. Instead, they only have the attention span for a 3 minute tiktok video and can barely type outeletter acronyms, emojis and like buttons. Technology has created a dumbed down, fat, lazy and entitled society. The golden age is gone and we are in a free fall towards our collapse. Societies / great civilizations come and go. Why should or would western civilization differ in that regard to all the previous great civilizations? I used to foolishly think our present society would be saved from a collapse due to our wonderful technology. Yet it's technology that is undermining our intellect thereby accelerating our demise. Yes, I never imagined I would be a part of societal collapse. I didn't see it coming until about 12 years ago and even then I didn't imagine it being where we are at today. Now I realize I haven't seen anything yet. No one imagines they'll be living in a failed/collapsed/dystopian future. I remember years ago, back in 1988, traveling to Germany and sitting next to a couple from Yugoslavia - only a few short years later, their nation gone. I'd imagine people in Iran in the 70s didn't realize the shitshow that happened to them - same with those living in Venezuela. I think the collapse is going to be especially hard on Americans. Most Americans I know have never studied societal collapse or are aware of the patterns outside of Hollywood movies. Millenials, Gen X, BB generations have been soft and the 'greatest generation' that survived the depression and WWII are nearly gone. True, but Yugoslavia was nothing but a construct from early 20th century as many other countries were. Besides, it just morphed into several countries, just like Czechoslakia did too. There was nothing sacred about Yugoslavia that would have commanded it to stay alive as it was. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 79543875 United States 06/23/2022 08:21 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes it is. The people of today are entitled even the main cabin middle seaters. It’s a miracle every time a plane takes off. That a trip that would usually be 30hrs and you can get there in less than 4hrs. People treat it as if it were an Applebees. Which is annoying. They dress like they just rolled out of bed, they smell, they trash the rows they sit in on every flight…they are rude to flight crew and other passengers. It just isn’t even what it was 4yrs ago. I boarded an entire plane the other day and not one person said hello to me not even the kids. I was up front greeting every single one of them. Humanity is just selfish and entitled and they treat us crew like we are the help: they have no idea all the emergencies we have to go through. Serious Medicals, engine failure…severe turbulence…these are just a few of things I have done on the plane and these peoPle see me as the maid. Truth is myself along with many others on the airlines fought for the unvaccinated. We made a big difference and we’re a huge part of the reason it went to court. I’m unvaccinated and alot of other crews are as well…I guess the maskers don’t like me cause I don’t wear a mask…the anti vaxxers think I am vaxxed. So both sides I get hate every single day: Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83733905 That hate will come right back at them. Thank you for all that you do putting up with them and staying unjabbed and fighting for that. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80262102 Back in the day, pioneers would head west without knowing if they'd ever see or hear from their families again. Same with those who migrated to America and left their families behind all over the world. Migration is not new. However, thanks to technology, we don't have to rely on the pony express or fuck off overseas to keep in touch with family. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80262102 Exactly. Some families will never see each other again. And most family will come to the rescue before anyone else. They can’t really do that when everyone is all over the place. Cheap and on demand travel has messed that up. |

User ID: 76371517 United States 06/23/2022 08:31 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | US airlines don't want to fly a plane unless it is at 85% capacity. Fuel costs are crushing the airlines. Quoting: CharlieFoxtrot Just imagine a world in which, almost overnight, the transport system breaks down. Flights across the world are cancelled, leaving thousands of travellers stranded far from home. Airports are crowded with mobs of angry, frightened people. Even greater throngs descend on the railway stations, desperate to squeeze on to the horribly overcrowded trains. Meanwhile, the roads fall eerily silent, as rocketing petrol prices make it prohibitively expensive for all but the richest to drive long distances. For businesses across the Western world — hotels and restaurants, cafes and newsagents, garages and tour operators — this would be nothing short of a disaster. [link to www.dailymail.co.uk (secure)] Yet with high gas prices roads are packed with cars, most with one person in them, and airports are full of people. Guess people didn't get the memo. |

Families build communities over time. America has always been a transient melting pot though, for the most part. I love where I live in New Hampshire, with many families generations living here for hundreds of years. As a military brat, I never experienced anything like that - my parents from different states and their parents from different states and so forth. |

Lots of people here in the country still have horses, and the Amish swear (no they don't) by them. It will be a GOOD thing to get back to nature. Slower, but better. Thats probably not gonna happen either. There is no magic dome over the rural parts that keeps evil out. We got the last train out of Whitby and one of the last flight out of empty Heathrow b4 the UK started the covid shut-down. I won't be flying anywhere ever again, it was bad enough after 9/11 and it was getting unbearable as time went on. Used to hit the Grand Canyon view cabins twice a year but just don't like paying diesel prices at this level. (Can easily afford it but just won't pay it.) Now we just don't go anywhere anymore.
