A teaching about Jesus I find dangerous....
When I was younger, my dad always told me when he got saved, it was like a weight lifted off his shoulders and that he felt new. He always told me to burn in hell and that I needed to get saved. Any time I would talk about God he would make me feel like total dog crap and second guess myself.

The thing is, I never felt that weight off my shoulders that he is talking about. I have asked Jesus into my heart. But I have also always loved Jesus since I was little. I never had that "weight off the shoulders moment". To me, getting to know a Christ is not instant or overnight it is a slow and sure process.

But if you talk to my dad, he'll talk to you like he's the only saved one in the world and that you will never measure up. My dad doesn't always mean harm but he sure did alot of harm to me.

I came to the conclusion that the whole hell thing was what was keeping me scared and no God of love would want you to worship him out of fear of burning in hell. That is not really love then it is fear. I think preaching hell and making people think you have to have that weight off your shoulders is dangerous and could fill someone with unnecessary doubt.

I think we will always have sin in us. But when we accept Christ we also are "awakened" on our right side. So now we are constantly fighting the left side.

There are alot of "christian" things I've grown out of that I find will definitely push unbelievers away.

The saved bullshit it a lie.

You're not saved until you're either through the tribulation alive or end up in the first resurrection.

I would not say that either.

I think Jesus gift is far simpler than that. His gift is free, no strings attached. Unlike the devil. His powers always have prices attached.

Fear of God is a great thing, it will keep you in check and from completely and willful sinning. God loves us all immeasurably but He also wants us to fear him as well for the reason above, sin. He knows if you’re living in sin, it hinders your relationship with Him and could put you in danger and that goes for everyone.

I do agree.

But my point was just that, when the only reason you're worshipping God is because you don't wanna burn in hell... Than that is not really you worshipping him out of love. That is brainwash.

It's put in quotes because there are many "christian customs" that are more religious than truly spiritual many practice just for the sake of putting on a show. Or to save face.

I agree, but true fear of God keeps us in line. You can worship God and seek a true relationship with Him and when you find Him, the fear of hell will dissipate. God judges the heart, he knows if you’re trying. I view it as above nothing else, seeking Jesus and a relationship with Him, knowing you’re saved by God’s grace alone, do your best to forgive, love others, live holy every single day and never fall out of His grace. That’s our duty and the way to make it out of here.

We are all in a war for our souls on a battlefield and many are sadly unaware. Always, always stay close to Jesus, that’s the secret and He will give you peace and get you and your household out of here alive.

Only three things that matter:

(1) Love thy neighbor as thyself/Love GOD.

(2) Tithe

(3) When you pray, give thanks and claim Bible verses.

another way to excuse weakness and bad behavior to be foisted upon a 'savior' .

are people still this backward and broken to be in need of such a thing ...well apparently so .

God's word says he who believe in me shall not perish but have everlasting life. You perish if you don't want part of God's kingdom.

Gods word says they will be dust in the bottom of our feet after burning.

When something burns it disappears.

Bible interpretation is key and many interpret the worm that dieth not as hell forever but it portains to the place outside Jerusalem walls were body's were being burned day after day after day.

A God loving God will not make us burn for eternity.

Maybe 1000 years lol but it ends

Re: A teaching about Jesus I find dangerous....
Oh, and OP, “hell” in the Bible refers to the grave, where we sleep until we are brought back in one of the two Resurrections.

Anyone not “making the cut” in the second Resurrection and Judgement is cast into hot, hot plasma in the Lake of Fire, where they die... not live forever in pain, they simply die, burn up, their consciousness ceases and they cease to exist forever. The Book is quite clear about this. Anyone telling you that “hell” is a place of unending torment for humans is either misinformed or a tool of Satan; only Satan and his angels, who are immortal spirit beings and cannot die, suffer that fate.

Satan is the adversary, the accuser, the tempter.

He wants you to think you don't deserve Jesus' free gift.

Don't listen to it. God loves you and has plans to prosper you, not to harm you.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 43561103

It took me a good chunk of my early 20s to "unscrew myself" as well.

I grew up literally immersed in the Catholic Church and was told on my 7th birthday during a very lengthy "Age of Reason" discussion that if I didn't follow the rules, I'd burn in hell.

Great birthday.

Because none of that ever made sense to me, "Do exactly what I say or you'll burn in hell," I studied world religions for a stint in College.

I mean, really, would I want a group of people sitting around my table feasting forever who didn't have a mind of their own and needed a manual to get by? Can a God commit suicide? I'd surely find a way if that's what I were stuck with.

As it turns out, the concept of hell and burning for all of eternity didn't even exist in the religion that I'm not allowed to mention which predates the guru Jesus.

I personally believe that there are many gurus, now and in years past, but few and far between. Old souls are uncommon. Their words have been twisted in political fashion to force people to "do what I say or there will be consequences."

Hell was a concept introduced through Zoroastrianism. They had all sorts of scary stuff to keep their people obedient, and hell was one of them. It's reasonable to assume that because Iran and Israel are in close proximity to each other, that these ideas crossed over, along with their intended psychological effects.

Reincarnation was also prevalent until the Church said, "Man, this gives them too many chances. Who's going to listen to us if they have a thousand incarnations to get it right? Make it one; that'll make them compliant. Put your boots to their necks"

It's all politics and I would imagine that the Gods are pretty disappointed.

Be spiritual. Be a good person. "Awakening" is the purpose of your experience, not what a book tells you to do. Be one with the Universe. Quiet your mind. Then you'll feel the weight lift off of your shoulders. The way there is unique to each soul. Find yours.

Everytime I have my "prayer and meditation" time .. the accusers voice comes creeping in.

You are so right and it took years for me to realize what you just said. God is so much more forgiving than any of us understand. And he is there right on time.

It's amazing how many times we can screw up and the Lord will be there still to take us, correcting us gently but still there loving us. I don't think we can ever comprehend his love in our human mind.

I understand.

Many feel that the God of the Bible is not the true Creator.

Jesus I think understood this and his teaching have been warped. IMHO.

Who can really know? Listen to your higher, best self. Seek truth, beauty, love and peace. Let the rest go.

No one is "saved" until they die. Jesus said those who endure until the end will be saved so make it to your death without falling away from the faith and you're good for eternity.

Re: A teaching about Jesus I find dangerous....
Op - You are an idol worshiper and so is your Dad. He is likely a toxic narcissist as well.

Im not saying this to be mean to you, but people need to hear the truth when they have been enslaved.

The only thing keeping christianity going is the community. You dont need truth to keep a community going. Whether its christianity or islam or any other religion they survive on community.

The sense of acceptance and belonging. It is why they work so hard to be exclusive. Because without that community it will collapse

It is why they shake a stick at you you "keep in community...or else"

There are a lot of benefits to being accepted in a community. It can feel good

really good and be really helpful when you encounter issues

but none of that. not any of it requires ACTUAL TRUTH

Actual truth does not require community to keep it going. Community is not bad, but it is abused by idolatrous religions to stay alive generation after generation
They say "look how many we are!"
They say "look how long we have survived"
They say "surely we are in the right..."
That is merely survivorship bias

The fact that you feel something is wrong or missing is perhaps your only inkling to free yourself and any children that you may have or have one day

You can be free, but you will need to reject the idolatrous machinations of these multi-billion member communities.

I speak from experience after 40 years as a trinitarian mangod worshipper of jesus. World missions, yet a fool merely parroting and believing what generations of idolaters taught me from birth

Then the name of the only true God, mentioned more than any other in the entire bible the old/only testament (even if you include the new testament in the term 'bible' still mentioned THOUSANDS of times more).

His name is YHWH and you can break this cycle of enslavement, but only with His help.

I think He is calling to you.
The question for you is do you have the courage and the love of real truth to respond.
