Democrats introduce bill to enact term limits for Supreme Court justices | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 83889862 United States 07/27/2022 07:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I want the names of the fucking retards that are proposing this pile of unconstitutional shit. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83889862 Oops it's further down in the article. The usual bunch of commie fucks: Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) introduced the bill along with Reps. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), David Cicilline (D-R.I.), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.), Karen Bass (D-Calif.) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) as co-sponsors. And every one of them took an oath to uphold the Constitution. Why do require that oath if there are no CONSEQUENCES for ignoring it? Perhaps Congress can pass a law about that instead. As long as they police themselves, they're going to continue to given themselves the best deal they can possibly think of. Don't you wish you could vote a raise for yourself? Or decide you want premium insurance instead of Obammycare at everyone else's expense? And on and on and on. Fackers. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 83296224 United States 07/27/2022 07:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | lets have the Supreme Court vote on congress having term limits then as well just to make it fair. Quoting: Michæl since they cancel each other out now it seems anyway who the fuck cares anymore Very true, but only one PARTY in one branch of our govt seems hell bent on cancelling the others. First, they did everything they could to cancel a duly elected President to the Executive Branch (several times). Now they want to cancel justices they don’t like in the Judicial Branch. Perhaps it’s this one PARTY that needs cancelling since they don’t respect our form of government. |

They’re elected every 2 and 6 years. They can change any laws they want. But they can’t change the Constitution without passing an Amendment. The Supreme Court, when it does its job, determines whether laws passed are Constitutional. |

It would be far less political becasue it would be hard to say who will have control or a majority by the time a case makes it to the docket. Quoting: Happy in Nature Because that's not how the constitution works. Because they are supposed to interpret the LAW....They do not interpret feelings, beliefs or policies. The SCOTUS is the only continuity, by interpreting the laws per The Constitution. If we are changing Justices all the time, the law becomes less and less relevant and based more on politics and feelings and not The Constitution. Terms limits need to be enacted on Congress; they are supposed to be there as a representation of The People in their district not a career path. Most of them seem to have forgotten this. They make the damn laws; SCOTUS only interprets them per The Constitution. If they are calling for this, they are calling for Feelings Justices and Beliefs Justices, not Justices of the law. "The judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. We also need to STOP the payments, insurances, and other perks when they leave office !!!!! It's insane what these corrupt idiots (from both parties) drain from tax dollars, even after they leave office. formerly "Yes I Did !!!" but no matter what... I'll deny EVERYTHING. Anonymous Coward User ID: 74628864 United States 07/27/2022 08:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The states tried to place term limits on Congress, but the U.S. Supreme Court shot it down in U.S. Term Limits, Inc. v. Thornton, 514 U.S. 779 (1995), finding that states cannot impose more restrictions on the qualifications of congresspersons greater than what the U.S. Constitution provides. I believe Congress is also barred from action on term limits under a similar decision in Powell v. McCormack, 395 U.S. 486 (1969), which probably has something to do with the movement in the 1990s to enact term limits at the state level. I think that Justice Clarence Thomas was correct in his dissent in Thorton where he said: "It is ironic that the Court bases today's decision on the right of the people to "choose whom they please to govern them." Under our Constitution, there is only one State whose people have the right to "choose whom they please" to represent Arkansas in Congress ... Nothing in the Constitution deprives the people of each State of the power to prescribe eligibility requirements for the candidates who seek to represent them in Congress. The Constitution is simply silent on this question. And where the Constitution is silent, it raises no bar to action by the States or the people." [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 16242016 United States 07/27/2022 08:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A group of House Democrats introduced a bill on Tuesday to enact term limits for Supreme Court justices, arguing that the move will “restore legitimacy and independence to the nation’s highest court.” The legislation, titled the Supreme Court Tenure Establishment and Retirement Modernization Act, would authorize the president to nominate Supreme Court justices every two years — in the first and third years after a presidential election. The justices who have been on the court the longest will be moved to senior status first. If confirmed by the Senate, those individuals would serve a maximum 18 years on the bench. After their tenures are complete, the Supreme Court justices would retire from active service and assume senior status. Congress does not have this power, The Supreme Court is one of the Three separate parts of the Gov. they don't control the Supreme court the States and the people do. The way I look at what went on in congress, the states and the people need to do a little work on congress and executive sides now. They may not know it but the States and People can abolish the house and senate and any other part of the government. Sorry I got a headache These are the times that tries men's and women's souls! May we come though it victorious! |

It would stop the threat of death like when they more than likely killed Justice Scalia . He was killed . Two 6 year terms 12 years tops and congress the same with a way to censure them every two years so you don’t have them turn costing after there second term starts . It was never meant to be this way imo . Biden had 40 years in the Government . Pelosi too . stop liberal propoganda |
